Hi all,
I've been thinking about getting some reloadable brass, dies, bullets, etc. to make up some rounds other than Czech milsurp (which is great for fun at the range, don't get me wrong).

I'm wondering if those who have attempted this before me have any suggestions as to which brass and which dies have worked well (or have provided a less positive experience).

Also, I notice that there seems to be a shortage of "new" reloadable brass lately. Can anyone recommend a Gunnutz sponsor who is a good source of new or good quality once-fired?

Thanks,
FB

I use new winchester brass that purchase at gun show. It's not easy to find once fire brass, since everyone is shooting surplus. I use Lee dies and bullets I use copper plate bullets from canadiandbx. I think canadiandbx is not selling copper plate bullets anymore.

I am using Winchester brass as well which I purchased from a CGN'er. I use RCBS dies which I also found on CGN. The brass has been reloaded 4 times so far and doesn't need trimming yet. I have had very good results accuracy wise with Hornady V-max bullets and the Winchester brass in my AR upper. I wish I could say I knew where to get more brass but I don't at the moment. WS lists it but never seems to have it. Just keep watching on CGN I guess.

I have been using mixed brass and shooting lead bullets in my SKS with very good results. I use Lee dies (Neck size only) and the FCD.

Take Care

I've loaded some rounds up for my sks and cz858 using prvi brass and lee dies (full length).

I've found that the sks likes 14.5grs of 2400 and hornady 123gr sp. It's a mild load and the brass only kicks out 2 or three feet and doesn't take the #### kicking that full power loads do to the brass. Accuracy is within 1.5" at 50 yards. The 858 will not cylce this load.

For the 858 the best load I've found is 30.5grs of h 335 with the 123gr sp.
The 858 is much easier on the brass compared to the sks with this load. It groups an inch or better at 50 yards.

Is the 123 Gr. SP the .310 Hornady bullet? I think it's their item number 3140.

Other Bullet Choices?

There are a some other bullets that I am curious about. They are .311 dia, not .310, so there's 1 thou. difference. Would they be acceptable in terms of weight and diameter for reloads in an 858? (Powder type and weight as per the manuals, of course).

Sierra #2300 150 Gr. Spitzer 303 Cal .311 dia
Sierra #2315 174 Gr. HPBT Match 303 Cal .311 dia
Speer #2217 150 Gr. Spitzer SP 303 Cal .311 dia
Barnes Triple-Shock X-Bullet #31115 150 Gr. TSX flat base 303/7.65 Cal .311 dia.
