epps has matching k98

Seems a tad pricey to me, so here's a serious question- if a mismatched, sanded, and reblued K98 is going for $649.00, what would an all matching (apart from a sanded Czech stock) byf 44 vet bring back with good bore be worth?

Since its sanded, and Im assuming mismatched stock, Id say 700-900, depending. If your gun is all matching, in the proper manner, w/o a sanded stock, depending on condition, you could be looking at 1700, or even more.

Did you happen to notice that the posting on Epps' website said Condition: Good? Notice it does not say Very Good, nor does it say Excellent.

Take a look at the criteria for grading, also listed on the Epps site, and you will see that the flaws you have so eloquently pointed out do indeed fall within that range.

As for refinishing, again, at no point on the site is there every a claim that the gun had NOT been refinished. For what the gun is, the condition is as marked: Good, and the overall saleability will not be affected by these minor appointments.

Note the price. If you were expecting a mint K98, one would assume you would expect to pay a premium price far higher than the one on this gun's tag. At $649.00, this is a great gun, and a great deal for any collector.

I did more than read, I called. I asked the pertinent questions and got the wrong answers. I think your either the guy who gave me the wrong answers or the guy who put the rifle up for sale. Either way, if this is what you deem a 'matching' collectable, I won't be buying from you any time soon.
Redarding Epp's, I realise that all their salesmen can't be experts on Military Mausers. They all know a lot about stuff that dosen't interest me in the shooting world. As they say, 'Jack of all trades, master of none...' That's fine by me as long as they don't intentionally misrepesent what they sell. I've has many fine dealings with them and hope to have many more.

Please don't take offense at this, but if this gun has had the stock sanded, & has been reblued, it has lost any real collector value. The term for a gun such as this one is "bubba'ed", & any serious milsurp collector will generally NOT be interested. IMHO a gun such as this one should be more in the $200 - $350 range. IMHO RC mausers should also be in the $200 - $300 range based on condition, however I realize that the supply is shrinking so the value will continue to rise.

It could have been better and it could have been worse, like the buyer at Bud Haynes that paid well over $1000 for an "All Matching K98"" that turned out to be a Russian Capture. :jerkit:

Like Mick Jagger says, "You can't always get what you want"....

IT Wasn’t a RC at all. I don't know where you got your information. It was an East German refurb and very nice like brand new. Although he Did pay WAY TOO MUCH for it but don't insult what is considered to be the bestest example of all the post WWII refurbs by tagging it as an RC!!!

You dam RC Hater.:D

I remember that....I laughed outloud

sometimes ya get a deal buying stuff......sometimes ya get a deal SELLING stuff

If you remember kluunk then maybe you should get checked for oldtimers because you should know too that it was not an RC. But I recall your the one who claimed that the stamped serial numbers were poorly done?? Maybe the East Germans had some drunk Russians working at their refurb plant eh!;)

Harrier, I am on your side. Just remember one thing about this site. It is full of vindictive collectors who will crap on anything or anyone when it comes to trying to point out anything positive regarding RC k98's. AN RC in crappy condition or good condition is still a MILSURP and a part of FACTUAL DOCUMENTED HISTORY SO what IS their problem, Arrogance maybe. NOT SURE.

RC's are fine examples of affordable collector milsurps. And some do command a higher doller depending on their condition. NUFF SAID

Whatever it was, it was still an overpriced POS and the buyer got taken at auction! :(

WTF IS YOUR PROBLEM DID YOU SEE THE RIFLE??? I DID AND IT WAS NO "POS". THE BUYER DID NOT GET TAKEN AT AUCTION, HE SIMPLY WAS STUPID FOR BIDDING WHAT HE DID.

AUCTION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT

RIFLE WAS A VERY NICE EAST GERMAN REFURB FOR THE RIGHT PRICE IT SURLY WOULD HAVE BEEN WELCOME IN MY COLLECTION.
