Original TRW barrels chrome lined?

The USGI M-14 barrels, including TRW barrels, are chrome lined.

That is not to say that TRW didn't produce some barrels that were not, however. As you no doubt know, some people believe that chrome lining cannot be made as consistent (E.G.: accurate) as an unplated barrel and that optimum (match) accuracy would preclude a chromed bore.

I had a TRW chrome barrel that shot a 5 round 15/16" group at 100yds. Not stellar by bolt action standards but excellent for a chrome lined GI barrel. The FN SPR has chrome lined barrels and they shoot under 1/2" MOA. I'd trade a few fractions of MOA for the durability of a chrome lined.

Most were C/L , however TRW did build NM rifles also. Check the drawing # and if it ends in 190 ,then it is chrome lined ,if not look for the NM marking and a different drawing #.

I have a chrome lined 1963 TRW barrel on my M1A, with handloads she'll shoot 1" groups at 100 yards. Some factory ammo is terrible though, Federal Gold Medal Match shot 10'' groups at 100 yards.

YIKES! That is horrible performance for supposedly premium ammunition. It only shows that rifles and ammunition are like feet and shoes, wine and cheese, handguns and hands. One size does not fit all.
