ok, so i just purchased an 870 marine, fired a few rounds through it, and now it sounds like a peice metal or bearing is sliding up and down when the gun is tipped, its definetly a loose part or somethin in there, its basicall in the action to where the stock meets the gun. hard to explain, but a gunsmith had it and tighten the butt screws, but he couldnt get it to rattle like it does now.

any have this issue? everything works normal but there is something moving around in the back half of the gun.

any help?ideas? sounds like a small metal shaft sliding in a little bigger shaft.

There is a loose washer on the bolt in the butt stock. Both 870MM I've owned have had this "issue".

Nothing more than an annoyance, but you can remove the recoil pad, remove the stock bolt and remove the loose washer if it bothers you.

Why?

I have the same sound with my year-old MM. Big question ... so why does Remington assemble them with a loose/wandering washer? Or is that just sloppy factory work? If it's removed, then it's obviously not doing some kind of job ... the one for which it was originally included.

Thanks! ill try it, im not gun disassembly coherent so i just didnt want to rip it apart and be stuck with a bunch or parts

ill keep ya posted

That was the culprit, just a random little thin washer sliding up and down the stock bolt, i just removed it completely
