Hello all,

Hoping to move to Canada within the next year or 2!

Can anyone advise, Would I be allowed to apply for a firearm certificate or equivelent immediately or as a non Canadian ctizen is owning a gun not allowed?

I am a shooter in the uk and just want out of a country where I am made to feel like a criminal for my interests.

Dougie, the answer to you question is yes. However it may take longer for you due to one reason.

You can sit the Canadian Firearms safety course as soon as you get here and then apply for your Possession Acquisition License.

The only thing that might slow you down a bit is that you need to supply 2 references to saw that you are of good character and sound mind. Those people need to have known you for 3 years. I was lucky enough to have family in Canada who would vouch for me. You may have to supply references from Scotland and hope that they are accepted.

Even in Ontario which vies with Quebec as the most anti gun Province is a 100 times better than the UK. I used to shoot at the Clyde Valley Pistol Club in Lanarkshire. I did the safety course 6 months after I arrived and had my Restricted and Non Restricted PAL 2 months later.

Many people live here that are not citizens and own firearms. There is no requirement to ever become a citizen if you don't want to. If you become a permanent resident, then and only then can you apply to become a Canadian citizen. It will take about two years to be come a Canadian citizen after you have become a permanent resident, 4-5 yrs in all. Be warned !! to become a Canadian citizen you will have to swear on oath of allegiance to the queen of England:D:D:D

Welcome to CGN Dougie! Any idea where in Canada you'd like to live? Most would agree that the western provinces are the most gun friendly. We also have the fewest Liberals... :D

Been looking at Alberta, as seems to be plenty of work there.
I am a fire and security technician, currently working for Chubb as an Operations Manager. Waiting to hear if a transfer is available to Chubb Canada, if this goes ahead then I'll go where they want me.

I"m just across the Irish sea in Northern Ireland, and I"m leaving for Alberta on friday!
I"m doing my bow hunters ed in Calgary in a couple of weeks and challenging both the fiream safety course and the restricted firearm safety course when I"m there.
I"ll be in Lethbridge for the next 6 weeks, then over to Arran for the stags with the BASC and then bow hunting in New Brunswick for 5 weeks!(I know, it"s a great strain for me!)
I spoke to the Canadian Firearm centre last week, and downloaded the application forms for my PAL(possession and aquisition license).
I have a police clearance certifiacte form here, and 2 guys here who can be telephoned during working hours(an RFD and a civil servant), but anyone can be a referance inc family members(maybe not a spouse?/not sure)
There should be no problem getting tooled up compared to here in the UK, but remember that your emmigration process is lengthy. I"ve been working on it for 2 years and it"s not through yet.(job approved and case number issued etc)
It"s not like coming to the UK, where you can hide in a lorry container, jump out and shout "welfare" and be given a house.

(ps bring Whisky, Crown Royal does"nt deserve to be in the same room as Glenfidich!)
