Thanks Walter and everybody else for a great match. And a big thank you to all the sponsors. I was just dissappointed not to see real rattlesnakes on the range. I have some video up loading to youtube. so far I have Sean shooting the princess stage. search for 2008 canada nationals or my username ipsc1

well we do have a big (5 feet) bull snake on the range that keeps that rattlers off of the range. he just wasn't around this week.

just curious. I heard about someone getting a penalty for stepping outside a pathway, but not while shooting? is that correct?

Well I am back home in Ontario and I can’t sleep (time change screwing with me)… so I am going to add my 2 cents about the Canadian Nationals.
First and foremost, congratulations to Walter and his crew. The match exceeded my expectations!
I had the pleasure of shooting with a really fun squad, and I had a blast.
Stages were a mix… from “filler stages” to “carnival stages” to “mind f**k stages” to “awesome running & gunning stages”… there were stages for everyone’s liking, that’s for sure.
To all the skeptics… dedicated range staff was awesome!!! I cannot see any reason people would want to go back to the old way. Thanks to all the CRO’s and RO’s that sacrificed so much for us and to make the match a top notch event.

Awesome match. I'll repeat what I said at the banquet. Excellent job Walter!
Great stages, great props & a chance to see a hundred + of my friends again.

Someone said to me that I seem relaxed during the AGM speaking in front of the crowd, when he usually sees people who are uncomfortable public speaking. I told him that it's very easy to speak at the AGM because when I look out into the crowd, I see hundreds of my friends, and that's what IPSC is all about.

I didn't announce it at the banquet because the ticket sales went nuts at the end and I couldn't tell how well we were doing, but I just counted the ticket income and the STI Spartan raffle raised $1680 for the World Shoot Teams!!!

I would also like to take a moment and thank Walter and his staff for job well done.
Walter, you have accomplished a task that was sad it could not be done, dedicated CRO and RO's do work...

Thank you to all the competitors that came and shot the match, without you we wouldn't have what is the greatest sport in the world.

I am honored to have been part of the 2008 Canadian Nationals not only as a competitor but also as a Match Sponsor...Walter, BIG Thank you for everything.

Lastly...for all those that visited Double Tap Sports tent...I thank you for your support...

Match was great, possibly the best I've shot in a long time. I liked the 3 day format and the dedicated RO's. I do wish they had done more frequent target changes and had placed safety areas closer to the portable toilets, but those are minor range/administrative details that didn't detract from the quality of the stages.

Congratulations to Walter, Cathy and all of the Lethbridge crew: you did good! (unlike some of us who took too many misses and are still crying over the outcome :p)

just curious. I heard about someone getting a penalty for stepping outside a pathway, but not while shooting? is that correct?

I don't know if anybody received the penalty, but that's how it was read to us in the walkthrough. I almost stepped out by accident, and had to fight to keep my balance and stay in for about 4 steps after I stumbled on the raised fault line walking backwards.

There were 2 places where this could have happened.
1) On "Save the Princess", stepping in the moat would have resulted in a Procedural.
2) On "Snakes and Ladders", going cross country instead of staying on the path would have resulted in Procedurals as well. In this case, we added a rope fench on both sides of the path to prevent inadvertantly stepping off the path.

I'm not aware of anyone getting PE's for this on either of these stages.

dedicated range staff seems to be the way to go!

This makes for a better match for the shooters.

From the RO's perspective, working the match was fine... but shooting the pre-match was challenging. Even had the weather been better (it was a tad windy on the pre-match day), shooting 21 stages in one day leads to some sub-optimal performances. My body did a decent job of executing the plans that my brain came up with... but in hindsight, my exhausted brain wasn't doing a great job of coming up with the plans.

I would like to say a couple of things about Nationals

First and foremost!
A heartfelt thank you to our Lethbridge crew who worked some long hard hours setting up Nationals, and tearing down on Monday and Tuesday! Without them it would never have happened.
Thank you to Frank and Ivan for their Duties as Range Masters and a special thank you to all of the CRO's, RO's and Stats people, again this match could not have been run as successfully without them!

Thank you to the competitors that came to the match. It was awesome to see so many familiar faces and to meet some new ones.

Second for those of you looking for Team results I have added them to the bottom of the results page on the website (thank you Kevin for supplying them)
