Ontario Hunters! (I'll likely get my pee-pee slapped for this, but important!!!!)

I got my call through. Now I have to wait until the 22 to apply for a 3rd one lol Tons of tags available stlll.

We should apply as a CGN group somewhere lol. An area where would could all gets tags

It took a bit. I called at around 12.30 this morning I did my controlled hunt first and had to call back because it cut me off. It took about another 20 minutes to get through the second time. Always a busy tone.

Glad I live up here in the great white Nothing!!! Only thing we have to enter draws for are Buffalo (protected and requires a free guide - provided to you by DNR, tipping of course allowed), and Muskox - which are in an area so remote, it requires a great amount of logistics to get there. Including strategic fuel drop offs, and extreme winter weather and long snowmobile distances to deal with in oftentimes -50C across Great slave lake.
But for any other animal, just go to DNR, and buy tags for a moose, 2 wolf, 2 wolverine, 2 male caribou, black bear, grizz (one per lifetime) in specified zones, and all the small game you can shoot. I guess the small population, and large area still allows us some freedoms up here. Too bad the 8 months of winter make it unbearable for most to want to live up here.

Yeah but, how far do you have to fly to go down the Gander River?

See you in two weeks. ;)

Must have hit redial 200 times by now. Just about every time i get a fast busy signal . Once it a while I get a pause, my hopes go up, then a slow busy signal.:( Any Bell gurus who can explain the difference
between the two signals? Better to go cell phone (direct) rather than through office switchboard?

Is anyone getting through today? I got through twice and get "technical difficulties, can't rout call"

I received the same message a couple of times today; I finally was successful after about three hours of calling.

Regards,

Chizzy

It wasn't suppose to be up and running till 8:30 but apparently people started calling in before that and it started to screw up the phone system.

High volume alone would cause these problems at any time...

The fast beeps means the call is not completed. Slow beeps are the busy signal. The fast: slow ratio is about 10:1.

That said, I got through after 7 hours, although I had a 3 hr nap.:) (night shifts)

Last year was 9 hrs, so my average is getting better.:D

Got through after hitting redial from 0830 to 1240, then got the tag I wanted.
There has to be a better way though, because this is a waste of a day.
How about offering additional tags to landowners first then whats left goes into a draw?

Finally got through this morning. What a joke of a system that is. They should maybe break it down into WMU areas, say 3 or 4 days for each general area, so the system isn't overloaded with everyone from Ontario trying to get on, on the same day.

After 6 hours of trying last nite and today, i got through at 5:50 am this morning and WMU 67 was sold out!!!I've had an extra tag since they started this about ten years ago.WMU 67 has gone from about 1100 tags or more with a max of 6 ,4 years ago to a total of 280 tags this year!!Now these are the extra tags.I'm quite sure it's still 100% for antlerless tags on the first draw for the regular gun season. Now the info package for extra tags this year is screwed up.In one column they say for bow muzzle loader AND regular deer season. In the next column they give the valid dates and it does NOT include the regular gun season. The additional tags i've had in past years stated this very clearly on the tag, that it was good for archery and muzzle loader only.I've talked to 5 people today who got an extra tag thinking they can use it with a .308 during the regular gun season.I don't think so.

I have heard from people as well that they think they got a gun season when they got a bow. Most of what is around for extra tags is for the bow seasons.
I know several hunters that just got stuck with bow tags that didn't realize what they did

The additional Tgas in WMU 67 are for anytime in the entire bow season and for the special muzzleloader seaon, the first week of december.

I didn't think there was ever any additional's for the regular season. Thought they were all Archery, or Controlled hunt extras.

WMU 64, and 63 had extra tags for the rifle season in the past, but not this year. At one point WMU 64 had over 5000 extras and you could buy 6 of them for any gun or bow season.

This all came about after the Lanark Landowner's Assoc. complained about deer populations and started culling them on their own.
