so anyway...

Finally tried slugging the bore on my Nagant sniper rifle...

The slug didnt like it much....squishy damn things...

It comes out at somewhere between .313 and .314

Is that right???...I thought they maxed out at .311???

Is there a such thing as a .313 boolet?

Apparently you have Pi...:D

Not so sure I want to slug mine now, might have to resort to .311's with a patch!

Are you using cast? If not don't worry about the groove diameter, I have never slugged a soviet mosin at under .312 & most are about .313. What are you getting for groups now? Is this the mosin that used to shoot 1' groups?

Many of those as well as Lee Enfields go that big, and it's hard to get molds of that size as most are made in the USA and they are not big users of the .303 or other .316" bores. NEI handtools make molds of that size, in some very good looking designs.

I'm pretty sure Lee will make you a custom set of moulds for any bullet size if you special order it. My friend did it and had no trouble. Think it cost him about $40 if my memory serves me right. Then you can cast your own .314 bullets.

No point in trying to go to .316, it won't chamber. .314 is on the ragged edge of being able to chamber in any of my rifles & you have to open up you seating die to get it to fit.

My Nagant slugs out to .312, so I'll just be using Hornady 150 .312 SPs when I finally get a set of dies in 7.62x54r. Problem solved. :D

Unfortunately, one of my P-14's slugs out at .315. I know they make a .315 line of Lee Enfields in India and I was thinking about importing some bullets (sans brass and powder) but from what some of the locals told me, they were of very poor quality... that and I have no idea how Indian export laws work, and shipping would get pricey.

The beauty of buying the .316" mold is that one can try it at .316" and if there are chambering problems just size it down to .315 or .314 until you get the fit you want, thats the beauty of cast bullets.

cast bullets....RRrrr

I just started reloading a few months ago and Im already lookin at messing up my future children with lead poisoning

Dontcha need a special press to lube and attach gas checks with cast bullets??

I only know casting from the hill-billy black powder crowd and I dont think they need to do this....?

I havent loaded a single round for the gun yet....have everything but loadable brass

Just wanted to have everything in order before I started

The gun shoots A-OK with surplus....but like anyone- I want BETTER!!!

My tula sniper shot 1 1/2 to 2 1/2" on surplus & 3/4" with cast handloads at 100yrd. If yours is shooting good with surplus, it will do great with handloads.
