How tight are your groups?

At our club we often shoot 25 yard pistol bullseye. The categories are rimfire, rapid fire and centre fire. We always shoot five shot strings and score them accordingly. Perfect score would be 50.
Rimfire, I'm shooting low 40's, about 2.5 inch groups.
Rapid fire, shooting high 30's, about 4 inch groups.(sometimes with the odd flier).
Centre fire, around 40, 3.5 inch groups.
Just wondered how these scores compare to yours???

Can you post a photo of one of your targets? That way I will have some idea of what the scoring system looks like.

I am curious about this stuff too. I posted some photos in the thread about "New gun... can't hit a damn thing". For 5 shots groups, measured from centre-to-centre between the two shots furthest apart, I think that under 2 inch is good for 10 yards or less, under 3 inch is good for 15 yards, and under 4 inch is good for 25 yards. It's pretty hard to do a lot better than that with a centre-fire handgun unless it is some kind of special target gun.

This is the thread. My targets are at posts 7 and 14 I believe.

Like basically everyone else here, spend most of my shooting time these days working on shooting fast, fast hits on multiple points of aim, double and triple taps, drawing from a holster and shooting DA then SA smooth, etc. It is nice to be able to know that you can come within a few inches of point of aim at 25 yards on every shot, and I definitely work on that skill too, but a shooter cannot live on that alone.

What kind of gun are you using by the way? I mostly use a SIG where accuracy is a concern.

I can usually group 2-3" at 25 yards with my Springfield 1911 .45. But I don't seem to be able to pull that off with any of my plastic, 4 inched or shorter-barrelled pistols. Honestly though, I don't think I could even come close to 4" groups rapid-firing. Then again, depends on your definition of "rapid-firing" ;)

I don't really shoot for "groups".

I aim for the A-zone on an IPSC target: if my rounds land within that zone, I'm a happy guy... and I'm usually pretty happy. (~2 shots per second, at a distance of 7-12 yards.)

If I take careful aim, it's a 2-3 inch affair. I'm not that good.

Went to the range last night and I thought I would post some targets.

OK, so I went to the range and tried out a handful of groups at 7 and 15 yards with my H&K USP9. Here are the results:

7 Yards, Technique #1 (Don't know what it's called, the left hand isn't angled/pointed forward)

1.35" and 1.55"

7 Yards, Technique #2 (Left hand is angled/pointed forward)

2.2" and 2.75" (1.1" if you exclude the flyer)

15 Yards, Technique #1

1.8" and 3.6" (1.75" if you exclude the flyer)

So yeah, I don't know why my shots are roughly the same at 7 and 15 yards, but I suppose that's not too shabby. Any thoughts?

PS. No, I didn't pick and choose. I only shot the above groups: after that, we practiced doubletaps and transitions.

Yeah, for sure.

I went to the range with a friend, so I didn't want to keep him waiting. If I had to guess though, I'd say the groupings would be around 4-5". I'll know when I do it.
