300 remington ultra mag

Gatehouse doesn't have a RUM that's me that has the RUM's GB is into little cartridges...

My buddy has a 300 RUM that I load for. He doesn't handload and doesn't practice much, but it was a good deal on a lefty .300, so he bought it.

I agree with what stubblejumper said about the cartridge.

My opinion is based on actually owning two 300ultramags,having fired approximately 600 rounds through them, and having killed a dozen elk and moose with them.

The 300ultramag was released by Remington in 1999.For several years before that, the 300 Canadian and Imperial magnums existed, which were nearly identical rounds based on the 404 Jeffery.

i was lookin at the sps model stainless and the xcr stainless ,both rifles are in the 300 ultra mag .is there really any difference between the the 2 rifles.besides the stocks on them .are the triggers the same .?.is it worth the extra money say 250 to 300 dollars more for the xcr model .?

thanks .tb.when im ready to get the remington in the ultra mag .it will be in the sps stainless model.

Be sure to budget in loading dies,a few hundred rounds of bullets,a hundred brass, and several pounds of powder just to get started. And since you say that plan to use this gun for target shooting, plan on rebarreling every few years.

rar, have you actually test-fired a RUM? Where are you located? If you are near me you are welcome to put a few rounds through mine.....it may change your mind. I am far from recoil shy, but there's a reason the RUM's arent a popular target round ;) But before you drop the $$ on a gun that won't serve your purpose if you want to try one out, let me know.

My own 300ultramags had mcmillan stocks, decellerator pads,26" medium varmint barrels ,and weighed just under 10 lbs scoped. In this configuration recoil was reasonable. However a factory sps with it's molded stock, lighter contour barrel, and it's lighter overall weight, the felt recoil will be considerably greater.
