A friend of mine tells me he has just obtained a mint Brno Mannlicher in 8 X 57. I haven't looked at it yet so I can't be positive. He asked me how much would it be worth so I told him I would ask the experts for him.

He said it has double set triggers, excellent bluing and doesn't look like it's been touched.

Gentlemen do you have any idea?

Brno

Al, with out good picks and other details, ballpark around $800-$1,200 here in Canada. Way more in the U.S. of course, but ignore those Gunbroker etc prices. I recently acquired a half-stock version in 7X57 for $800 with a B&L 400 Elite 1-6 scope all in VG-excellent condition with mint bore.
I think 7X57 is the more desirable chambering in a model 21, but thats just my opinion.
Cheers

I don't mean to be "That guy" but if my mannlicher you mean full stocked then it is a 21F not 21H.:redface:

I sold a 21H in 8x57 in 99% condition for $800. I could have gotten more for it me thinks.

Noel...chime in here. I thought the 21H came in a full-stock version as well.
If your friend is selling, let him know I'm interested.

21 = Long barrel model, approx 23" barrel
22 = Short barrel model, approx. 21"
H = Half stock
F = Full stock ( or as sometimes erroneously called, "Mannlicher" style)
I is not possible to have a 21H Mannlicher style. It is either a 21F or 22F.
I have both a 21H and a 22F, they are nice rifles.

I was in a gun store in Edmonton about 3 years ago I think. At the time they had a 22F in 7x57 Price was $900 and it was far from mint. Stock had been cut and another mis-matching piece had been spliced on and it had been drilled and tapped for a side mount. At the same time,there was a 21H as well in 7x64. Asking price was $650. It had been used lots and was in fair shape and I still am kicking myself for not grabbing it when I had the chance.

The 8mm is considered by many to be the less desireable calibre (if given a choice between the 8 and a 7). Regardless, if you are going to hunt with it, it will serve you very well.
Grab it if you can!

Opinions vary as to the 21H or F and to what it really means. For a spell I was thinking long barrel was in an F or H but I have found comment all over the net suggesting otherwise. The danger with me saying one way or another is all I know for the Brno's was gathered from various chaps via the net.

Not that they aren't good sources, it is just that there were so many different opinions I have no idea which is 100% right.

The half stock one I got for a fellow cgner here was a bit more than what Simon sold his for but it was not 99%, it was closer to 110% if you get my drift, seeing as I have held both personally.;)

It is no secret the 8mm is not a perrenial favorite with many which can drive the price down by times. They aren't making anymore of them so I doubt the prices will ever drop.

Brno 21/22

A bit off topic, but I'm guessing an 8x57 with a heavy handload would get your attention with that light rifle and narrow buttstock!
Definitely nice actions, but for me the double trigger and stock design was pointing me towards some significant upgrade costs so I sold the one I had.

Teh one I sold Slimbo felt every bit like a 338 Win Mag. The length of pull was too long for my wife to use too so I couldn't see much sense in keeping mine.
Even the 7 is long for her with the single set. Just over 14" I think. I bet the 22H in 8mm would be a real treat to touch off too.

I got my 7X57mm 21H for only $699. :D

The gun is a tack driver too! I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one in 8x57mm either. There's certainly nothing wrong with that caliber. If I find a 21F or 22F in any caliber I just might snap it up! :)

Did you know I love Brno's... :D

Amen...with the shape of the stock, the solid buttplate and the weight of that rifle combined with full house 200 grain loads.....ouch.

Brno M21 Mannlicher 8 X 57

I haven't laid eyes on the Brno and I didn't look up the model. Will do that when I verify it for registration.

I will have pictures up in a few weeks as he is away on vacation.
If interested contact me in a couple of weeks and I will send lots of pictures.
I wouldn't mind having it myself but I have other commitments.
