Any good explanation about that "funny-thing" that you view the front-sight through?

I was out at the range 2 Sundays ago and couldn't hit anything until I did some shooting while standing.

Perhaps you got you Mauser picts mixed up wit the SMLE picts. Check your label, that's a Vz24 Mauser (atleast it's labeled as such).

You mean the rear sight, by "funny thing"?

It's just like handgun sights... Focus on the tip of the front sight blade, centre that in the notch of the rear sight with equal light and equal height on each side of the front side blade.

"...that "funny-thing"..." That'd be the rear sight. It's a 'peep' sight. Look through it, not at it and concentrate on the front sight only. At 100 yards, sit the black of the target on top of the front sight.
That's only if the rear sight is on the receiver. If it is, you don't have an SMLE. An SMLE is a No. 1 Mk 'whatever'. You have a No. 4 Rifle. Likely a Mk I or Mk I*(same rifle with minor differences).

Sarcasm, the final frontier.

In a word: yep. ;)

BTW, for this:

I found this:

P.S. Real thanks, though - it is appreciated. Much practice is in order...I'm still transitioning from rimfire...:)

Edit: I leave it to you to backtrack the URL!

One more thing:

I know it's an SMLE; however, until you helped with the peep-sight, I was 'wishing' it was a No. 4!
