loading for the first time

Oh come on, it's dead simple what he's saying guys.

7mm - 08 calibre. He wants to know what powder to use... Sheesh!

Try s335 - start load of 42 gr.

Also check out the reloading section on this board. Very helpful.

Your getting flak for 2 main reasons, spelling and lack of homework. Your question leads us to believe that you have not read a reloading manual or have a mentor to help you. If you do not already have a reloading manual then stop and get one, read it until you understand all of it. Reloading is not difficult but it is something to take very seriously.

welcome poptart. Sorry that some people can be a little rude sometimes. I too am fairly new to reloading. getting yourself a good manual and good gear is a great start. there is a great variety of powder you could use for that caliber. the internet is a great place for information on loads and gear if you need. i agree with the above mentioned advice in finding a mentor that can help guide you along so you wont get yourself into trouble. the more serious people on these forums can be a great help in finding info when you need it.:wave::wave:

Welcome Poptart. Benelli one alluded to it: the Internet. You can check out the various gun powder manufacturer websites. Alliant, Accurate Arms, Hodgdon, IMR, Nosler, Ramshot, just to name a few.

Loaddata.com is another website worth checking as it has data from the powder companies, bullet companies and published articles, but you do have to pay to gain access.

The Lyman manual(not cheap, but it's extremely versatile) will have an 'accuracy load' listed for each bullet weight. I've always started with whatever powder is listed for that.

Sample for the 7mm 08 from Hogdon Data center in the above post
140 GR. SFT SP Hodgdon Powder H4895 Bullet Diam .284" C.O.L. 2.750"

grains 38.0 vel 2618 press. 42,000 CUP

grains 40.5 vel 2769 Press. 49,700 CUP

If there is one piece of advice that I feel is worth giving to a new loader,it is to spend some time online learning about pressure signs, and how to recognize them. All manuals recommend that you start with a starting load and work up while watching for pressure signs, yet most beginners don't know how to recognize pressure signs.
You also need to understand the reason for working up loads.Too many people assume that all loads listed in a manual will be safe in their gun,but this is not always the case.
