What would your first 9mm be?

Another vote for the XD9! :)

Unless of course you just want to end this debate once and for all...

Any brand of 1911 in 9mm! :D

Nuts with all these striker and SA/DA options. Nothing beats a good ol' 1911. (Not even my XD-9&45).

Another vote for the Sig P210. Once a year I get to shoot one of the Swiss Club's 210's at the Schutzenfest in Vancouver. The second year I tried it, I pulled off an 89 at 50 metres, good enough for a medal. Thats one accurate gun, and feels right in the hand, too.
Second place goes to the CF Browning Hi-Power, lots of memories there.

A Ruger P89 would seem nice to start off with (decent price too!). I would of picked the Glock 17 but frankly i'm scared of the pistols without a manual safety.

Why? Finger got a mind of it's own?;)

My first was a Browning High Power. There weren't any Glocks then.

G17 would be my recommend first handgun. doesn't matter which caliber. SInce you mentioned 9mm, then the G17 or G19. Why? Cheap, out of the box accurate shooter, easy to reassemble/disassemble, clean. No need to buy "upgrade" or "custom" parts in order for it to hit the x. No need to pay a gunsmith to do anything. Its a very easy gun to understand.

Not having too much experience with the 9's ( I have a H&K P7 M8 and a Baby Desert Eagle) , I enjoy the latter for sheer plinking more than the former (even my wife likes the BDE more than the former), I can't find any fault with the Israeli product, especially when equipped with the appropriate rubber grips.
