There have been a couple of threads on here regarding the Lethality of the 22 Long Rifle, and how well they penetrate at long range, and how well they can be shot out a ways. I have shot some groups with several 22 rimfires at 200 meters, but never really got truly serious about it. The wind seems to be always trying to play games, or consistent ammo is not available, etc, etc. Net result, I only had about a dozen "decent" groups shot at 200, and most hovered around the 1 moa area. Today, I shot a couple of targets at 200 meters with my Remington and the Eley Match EPS ammo it seems to favor. The winds were basically absent. I was encouraged to note that one 5-shot group at 200 was just around 1.5" and the other was under 1"!! I'll post the pics. [BTW, the squares are 1"] Regards, Eagleye.

Great groups

Wow Eagle thats pretty fine shooting. how much were you alowing for bullet drop at 200 meters? I have some Lapua rimfire ammo I'd like to experiment with. FS
 
Well Eagleye hat ws some mighty fine shooting. I am running a shoot at the range I belong to in Ottawa and have a 22lr hunting and Hv barrel class at 100 yards, as well Hunting guns and open class at 300 yards.
I have been watching members and non members practicing for the shoot next weeekend Aug 23. a lot are trying there 22lr some doing okay but only one fellow shot a group a little smaller than yours. but he was shooting at 100 yards big big differance at 200 meters. he was using the same ammo you shot in your very impressive group.
was that with the 541 Rem or 52 win

Thats sick!

I've never seen a finer display of .22 caliber shooting!

One of these days (when I can find a huge target) I'll give it a try.
 
I see why your nickname is eagleye lol, nice shooting.
Still gotta know the rifle/scope/ect combo though, very curious.
 
Thanks for all the very complimentary comments, guys! I love my rimfires, and particularly the good ones. I will not keep you in suspense any longer. Here are the Details:
Rifle: Remington 40X Single Shot
Stock: McMillan w/adjustable cheek piece.[Not a true benchrest, but quite flat bottomed. Very stable]
Trigger: Jewell, set at 4 oz.
Optics: Leupold 6.5x20x40 EFR shot @ 20x
Mounts/Rings: Leupold Dual Dovetail, Lapped.
Ammo: ELEY Match EPS [Black Box] Lot #1006-01164 Listed at 1059fps.

My next project will be to see if my Winchester 52C can match it at 200. Any bets?

LoS; That is correct! Remember, I was already shooting at 100 meters, so add 5-6 moa to reach 100 from 50. Regards, Eagleye.

To all those following this thread, I made an error in the original post. :redface: The squares are 1" not ½" as I stated. I have corrected the original as well. My apologies, EE.

Eagleye I will bet you a toonie, you can't match that group with a 52 win, Those 40x are somthing else, to bad there was'nt more around.

Some folks are using the .22 in Schuetzen shooting out west...it is fired offhand, at 200meters.There is a scope class and an iron sight class, B.P. and smokeless.....in calm weather it can hold it's own, however if there's any wind(and there usually is) the .30 and esp. the .32s hold sway. Recently most competitors have been using Wolf ammo, this is a switch from the past when they used ELEY, Fed.,Lapua,etc. This comp. is shot with pre '98 single shot rifles or copies, and the Ballard seems most popular....just some info for the non-TTSX crowd...I didn't mean to hijack the thread!!!
