Henry survival rifle

Well I am in the market for a good .22 that can break down for backpacking purposes, and since the M6 scout seems like a bust(unavailability), does anyone know anything about the new henry survival rifle? http://www.henryrepeating.com/h002_survival.cfm

I know the AR-7 has a reputation as a POS, but does anyone have any experience with these new ones?

Or if they are POS too can someone reccomend a good break down lightweight .22?

i handled one in the local shop. it's a decent gun, and for the price, i'll probably get one someday. however, i did find that the grip around the trigger was pretty fat. could be just my small hands. i would use the gun as survival/emergency only, not as a full time plinker. but, like i say, they look and feel like nice guns.
 
i have a new henry camo survival rifle. i love it, it is a great little, fun rifle. likes anything i have fed so far. check the other thread about the AR7 i have also responded in that one with loads ive personally used in mine.
 
My Papoose (purchased new in April) is in the shop for warranty work, as the mag well bent to the point of making magazine insertion / locking / and removal impossible.

Less than 1000 rounds through it.

That said, it is ten times the rifle that an AR-7 is.

Ouch.

If your in a canoe you put the marlin in the float-able case. You can't shoot from boats anyways, so why have it out and have it exposed to water.
 
Or you could get an old Winchester model 1906 takedown pump 22. Weighs about the same as a Daisy and reliable as bejisus. The one I just bought was made in 1932 and shoots like a house on fire. I seem to have to share it with guys at the range cuz they want to play with it. I have a CZ452 and a 223 as well but the 1906 is my fun gun and one if the few I can reliably hit targets with open sights standing. Comes apart with the turn of a knob. Next I think I will look for a Marlin 39A so I will also have a lever action takedown 22lr. Might just leave the 30cals at home once in a while. These are the original takedown pack rifles and have been made for a very long time. I have yet to see any of them worn out. No plastic in them anywhere either. Either one should cost you about $250 in nice condition.

Just curious, but why couldn't you clean properly just because you're camping?

We always cleaned pretty well in the field in the military, and we didn't exactly pack any more than the "essentials".

Waterproof does not mean water-tight, at least not necessarily. Just be alert regarding that. :cool:

I like the winchester 1906 pump idea. It seems to be what I am looking for in a .22 that can be packed, and it seems a lot better than the Ar7 knockoff I was thinking about earlier. Im still a noob to the sport, where would I find one of these?

I was also thinking about the stevens here, anyone know anything about them?

I've owned the same Armalite AR-7 for about forty years. It's a wonderful little gun. Used it as a plinker and emergency gun when flying. Only gun my wife actually liked to shoot and could hit with. However, if you want more options, why not look at one of the Savage 24 "camper" series. You get a rifle and a shotgun cvombination that takes down into a compact package. Savage used to sell soft cases for them, but even if they don't any more, there are plenty of after-market cases that would do the job. Mine is in .22 and 20 Ga., but there are other caliber/gauge combinations. An added plus is that you can get insert barrels in other calibers for the shotgun tube, and have lots of possibilities.

who remembers their cleaning kit on a camping trip....i can barely remember the tents,food,sleeping bags...ect i suppose you are more set up than I.
