Well I ordered the new Bassett scope mount even though I do not plan to scope my M1A anytime soon. :dancingbanana:

Is that the only attachment point? That single screw on the side?
If it is, that won't hold zero for ####.....

Not according to EVERY review of their original non-railed version I have read. Has to do with him using pins for location not a spline makes it solid and will always repeat to zero when removing it. ;)

Thanks for that T-star, really if the mount was designed and built properly a single screw will keep it secured on the rifle.

Funny how a single #12 screw or 1/4" screw can deal with a heck of alot more pressure and forces acting on it then a rifle can produce even when dropped but its still not "good enough". :rolleyes:

A #12-32 UNEF still would need over 700 pounds of force to shear it if made of a low grade (30,000 PSI) steel to shear. :eek:

The Basset mount uses a hardened round rod to locate itself in the V shaped grooves in the side of the receiver. The round profile makes it self centering and the tightening system of using the rifles weight to set the consistent torque on wrench to the the fastener makes it easily repeatable out in the field.

I haven't used one, but I would consider this mount for a dual purpose rifle that I wanted to keep the iron sights and stripper clip guide usable. I'm using a Smith 3 point mount, and so far its been solid.
 
i/m not getting one b/c i'm not getting any more of the m14 series- for a while at least- and the ones i do have already have mounts( they're not anything fancy) and three of the darned things are confined to the safe until i decide to change the receiver- or until harper does something about it

Everything is falling into place, the mount, the 10/5 3 magazines I bought from Wolverine will be here soon, now for a scope, and maybe a new stock.

JAE needs to make their stock with a folding AR buttstock/buffer tube mount like McMillan.

you think so?- i've still got my s&k single mount -it's a single point steel- so if you're retentive, i'm .......
STILL WAITING FOR THE DAY WHEN WE CAN USE OUR REAL M14S FOR HUNTING- AND I DON'T MEAN RINCO
