Southren Ontario .270 limit on hunting rifles

I've read this in several posts and I just wanted to clarify where the regions are. Sorry, I know I know get a copy of the regs I will do that as soon as I get to LeBarons on Thursday. I asked the guy at CT in my area and nope he didn't have any they according to him don't carry them. I was like WTF I thought all CT stores had them unless he was stone walling me he had that look non-gun owners get when you ask for something gun related.

So anyway which units only have the muzzleloader/shotgun seasons because I just bought a 30-06 today and I am really depressed at this idea. I know the .22Lr could get some use. I wanted to know how far north do you have to go to get a rifle tag for a 30-06. :(
 
Calibre restrictions are for small game only. However, most of these areas don't have any rifle season for deer.

The holder of a small game licence may not use a rifle of greater
calibre than .275, except a flintlock or percussion cap muzzleloading
gun, for hunting small game in the counties of Brant,
Elgin, Essex, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, Northumberland,
Oxford, Perth and Wellington and the regional municipalities
of Chatham/Kent, Durham, the former regional municipalities
of Haldimand-Norfolk and Hamilton-Wentworth, Halton,
Niagara, Peel, Waterloo and York and the City of Toronto
 
Well you'll have to look at each wmu to find out what their restrictions are, But I believe 76A or B (can't remember which) is basicly the farthest south you can hunt deer with a rifle for. The rest of the WMU's in south of that are shotgun or muzzleloader or a varation.
But you can hunt most of Southern Ontario for varment with anything under the .275 calibre as posted above. But you don't need to go that big as the yote's here are not all that big.
So if your going to hunt deer and Moose, then your 06 will do you fine, you'll just have to find a suitable location and apply to that area. Just remember the best policy is to get landowner's permission if you not hunting crown land.
 
Also you will have different bylaws in each Township. Regs say I can use .270 in Niagara but most Townships don't allow larger than .22 centrefire.

Wainfleet says cannot shoot a gun that contains rifling. I feel sorry for all the deer hunters if they ever enforce that law. Slug guns and muzzleloaders would be gone.

why would shotgunners be screwed as most barrels were made smoothbore

There's a whole new generation of very serious 12gauge slug guns out there....all with rifled barrels plus there are many serious slug gun hunters utilizing rifled barrels.
 
As mentioned, in the restricted areas there's no rifle season for anything bigger than a coyote or a ferral dog anyway. Most of Grey/ Bruce is unrestricted and they have a deer and some zones bear seasons. South of #7 is pretty much all restricted.

I am having a bugger of a time with that online book so I stopped to today and found a CT with regs. It would seem the online regs may have all the pages but every once in a while I guess I just need a real book which is kinda funny considering I'm going to an online school and take computer Sci. LOL but thanks for the link. It'll help with next year course I'll make sure I get the hunting regs sooner.
 
Thanks for the help guys it's reassured me slightly the 30.06 will have a use after all. I was really worried I had bought something that can't be used in the North Bay area I just found it and if I am reading it right the rifle is a go, in that unit the season isn't so bad either looks like a 2 week season in November and if I am feel particularly crazy a second deer tag :).
After I got a good look at the paper regs it fell into place. So do you still have to call the township offices up north to check the regulation as to what can be Used.
Oh boy I can see where a ML would come in handy there are several ML/bow only season in Ontario. Cool new reason for another gun.
I made a mistake I told her to much info about my 30-06 and the .22 Lr purchase now she's responding with logic about why do I need another gun? This gives me an excuse. :D

Is this a Township bylaw then, however, not being enforced at this time?

Ontario Regs do indicate both 89A/89B ok for SG, ML (read Controlled Hunt)....no specifics/condition pertinent to use of smoothbores only.
 
Too late, I already bought and paid for the gun from Trade Ex now I am just waiting to get it in the mail. that's why I was sad I thought I had bought a gun that would relegated to the range. Horrible fate for a rifle.

You aren't allowed in the GTA I checked not even a small game area damn. I guess that racoon last night given me s**t when I went out gets a pass. Little bugger was sitting on the dumpster chittering(is that a word) at me as I walked to the car. Kinda cute though looking in the dumpster looking at me make a noise look back in. Closest thing I get to wild life other then the skunk family down the road who had an unfortunate death in the family man do they stink fresh.
