New or old, what's in your safe?

I only keep shooters,no collectors at all.All of my hunting rifles are customs, and even my rimfire has an after market barrel and stock, and my air rifle an after market spring and seal.My oldest gun is a 7mmstw built in the early 90's,and I am currently awaiting delivery of the first factory rifle that I have purchased in many years. .

Old stuff really......1910 Rem Model 6 "tilting block" .22lr, 1914 ShtLE rebarrelled to 303/25 some time in the 50s, BSA Martini Cadet sporter in 25-20, Sportco Martini Hornet factory conversion for the mid 50s, sporterised '41 K98, Carcano 91/38 short rifle, 70s Anschutz 1400 .22lr.
I also have some old actions (large frame Martini Enfield, Martini Cadet, Turk '03/38 Mauser action) that someday may become rifles.
The only NEW rifle I have is the Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in 9.3x62 I bought this year.
I'm not opposed to new rifles, just have never had the money to buy them and am interested in old stuff.
The Tikka has changed my mind about that though.

Affordibility

Is a new rifle that expensive that you can't afford a few? This is something I don't understand about some that claim to be hunting enthusiasts. Why not get out and work more to earn a few bucks to buy a few guns?

It's just personal taste. I don't understand why a person would spend so much on a new gun when there are so many neat old ones out there.:)

Admit it Noel, when you look in your locker you imagine all the T3's you could have bought.(if only you had worked a little harder)

I would agree. However, one here who likes call people out doesn't even have great old ones. I have a .303 british lol if that counts? I don't know enough to trust old ones. The new old ones didn't do the job. I would love an old sharps:dancingbanana:.

I have failed....:(

You're right Ike. Heck, if I could afford it I would do like you with the 710's and built my yard fence out of them. I hear those plastic stocks and silver barrels really hold up well in the inclement weather. Plus burried stock down the frost cant push them out as easy.:stirthepot2:

Sure your 303 counts. The 50 Sharps would be a great one as well!:)
All kidding aside I had a long spell of using more modern rifles. After getting treated very poorly by Winchester I had enough of giving them my money. Ruger wasn't much better.
Eventually I wandered back to what I enjoyed more. I am happy there are lots of folks content to use new arms. It keeps food on the table for many a deserving family in the industry. Now if only they'd learn customer service they might have return customers.

Nice to have you be able to make value judgements on both the way I live my life and the way I spend my money without any real knowledge of who I am, my commitments or obligations.
There is no doubt that a couple of my rifles are not great.
The Carcano is a tomato stake and I'm going to have one last ditch attempt to get it right and then rid myself of it.
The sporterised K98 is also less than wonderful but it was all I could afford and it will soon have some serious work as well as a Timney trigger.
But both of the Martinis, the 25-20 and the Hornet, are superb rifles.
The 25-20 has a super light trigger and put 5 flat points into 0.77" off the bench at 100yds and rains merry hell on rabbits and hares.
The Hornet is also a lovely piece.
My 303/25 is less than wonderful in most ways.....the stock is a cut down mil affair, the scope is old and dinged, and yet it has successfully put down more game than any other rifle I own with the possible exception of the Anschutz .22.
While I watched other people have different issues with their new rifles it got bumped and knocked about and then nailed stuff no problems.
Would I like a locker full of classic Mausers and sporting Martinis and doubles......yup, but that aint gonna happen.
I'm a school teacher and I don't get paid for the many hours I work after the bell goes at the end of the day.
I also refuse to spend more time away from my wife and 3 little boys so the contents of my safe can measure up to people like you so I guess I'm have to be satisfied with what I have.
Besides an extra job would be cutting into potential hunting time......or should I have the fanciest gear but never get to use it?
I thought the whole idea of hunting was finding a winning combination and using it, not ragging on someone cause they thought they were crap.
I apologise for heading off thread here but I really think that sort of attitude is the outside of enough.
I have NEVER criticised anyone here for their choice of rifle or their choice of trophy or method of hunting.
Rather, as an international member I've tried to be a polite as possible and take from this what I can while adding things I thought people might find interesting.
Whatever your problem with me is, mackillan, get over it.
I haven't ever criticised you in past and have no issue with whichever way you may run your life.
Do me the same courtesy.

You called us out. Don't whine. Out of respect for the mods and the board members I will end this unless called out again.

BlahBlahBlah, rather than calling everyone else full of s**t (another thread), you really need to check your own backyard, that's if you even own one. And you sure do spend a lot of time trying to explain yourself..... pppppffft
