Shooting my wife's 700 youth .308 this morning, with a couple loads...

First group was from a clean barrel, 44gr Varget, 150 SST. Let it cool a bit, adjusted the scope slightly, then shot the second group, 45gr.

Operator error. You must have developed a flinch. Maybe the .308 is too much. Try 20 grains of powder.

IT's happenned to me before with a 260 remington. Shoot the second one a few more times and you will be set for life.

You think it could be the clean barrel? My model 7 takes at least 3 or 4 shots through a clean barrel before it will group well.

Hopefully it repeats itself 4 or 5 more times like Bartell mentioned. Damn fine group.

As noted, try that load again and see if it maintains that grouping. If so, load lots! After that, I would try cleaning the barrel again and then shoot a couple more groups. See if takes a few fouling shots to settle down as many guns do. Lookin' good man!

Now I know the secret of accurate shooting. Do a couple of hits from the bong relax and fire away. Thanks for the tip
