I'm looking for some help with a FTF problem with my Norinco M-14. Started off as an occasional problem, now every round. Trigger pull feels different and rifle doesn't fire. I took the trigger group out and it seems like most times when the trigger is pulled, the claws behind the hammer come up and catch the hammer, rather than letting it fall. How do I fix this? Thanks in advance Frank

Is your trigger pin installed correctly IE: Flush on both sides this pin holds the Trigger and the hammer springer guide if the pins not seated properly this can cause FTF and inconsistent trigger pull issues

check if bolt closes properly. Some times it need a little extra push on cocking handle (on some rifles).

They can fail to close fully for the simple reason that the op rod is hitting the wooden stock. There might be insufficient clearance just inside the front of the stock. But if there is truly a mechanical problem, and not user error, you should send it back under warranty.

Don't assume that because you pulled the op rod back, it caught a cartridge and closed on it, that the hammer was cocked. You may not have pulled it back far enough to #### the hammer, in which case you pull the trigger and there is nothing to drop. If you try again, make sure you look at the rear of the bolt and observe that the firing hammer is not resting against it.

bolt not closing properly is a simple fix. It never happened on my M305s but it did happen a few times with borrowed/highly modded one. I do not think owner would ever allow it to go back after all money he poured into it. It also happened with my M1 carbine after I replaced barrel. To fix it I looked where binding happen and smeared those places with lapping compound. Ran it back and forth few times, washed, wiped clean, greased - its most smooth rifle now.

the bolt some times will not close all the way if you "ride" the operating rod when cocking the rifle. make sure you pull the op rod fully back and release.

Thanks for all the input guys. I should add that at first I thought that maybe the bolt wasn't closing all the way because if I pulled the op rod back about half way and let go, the rifle would fire the next time I pulled the trigger. Then I reasoned that that didn't make sense because originally the op rod was closing from the full open. I started tinking that maybe the hammer wasn't cocking, so I took the trigger assembly out when this happened, but the hammer was always cocked. I found my gas cylinder plug was loose, but the problem persists after I tightened it. I think I have it narrowed down to the trigger group and I'm looking for help with how it operates.
