Effect of removing the flashhider and keeping it off Norc M14S?

I <believe> the FS is important to a point because it helps regulate pressure to the gas system as well as help diminishing flash, but I may be wrong ...

depending upon how it is attached it may affect accuracy, can't find the other article, but this gives the basics

Basically trying to move the exit point closer to the node

Just wondering if there will be any ill effects if I was to take off the flash hider and keep it off?

Your M14 won't ring when shooting and therefore also unable to do ping test....

CAUTION:
-Don't parade in front of the mirror with a M14 with the FH. The mirror will crack because of the M14's fugliness and the barrel is bend itself in embarassment. :p

i had mine fh removed for a while. no ill effect, hardly noticed any flash at all,

You might be shooting with your eyes closed. Before you start arguing - lots of even experienced shooters flick the moment shot goes off without even knowing it. You must be able to see flash with or without fh.

Another possible cause is that you shoot with scope and close your non-dominant eye like most people do. Trust me, flas is there. I recommend you look in the mirror if you still have you eyebrows. Ok eyebrows papart was a joke.

The flash suppressor was part of a concerted policy to reduce recoil in service rifles. The Americans tried dozens of harmonica shaped gadgets, baffles, fins and holes before settling on the slots. In reality, hanging anything loose on a barrel changes its harmonics, and a Congressional delegation reported that the flash suppressor, castle nut and front sight weren't helping accuracy repeatability. So, if you want to take one component off an M14S to improve the accuracy, the flash suppressor is as good a place to start as any.
