Help in a 308 Semi

Hi all,:wave:

I'm looking to pick up a 308 in semi-auto (restricted/non-restricted). I did look into a bolt action but I've read that the semis are as accurate. I'm pretty much clueless:runaway: in this field and need help.

I've seen some rifles as in; DPMS, Armalite, AR10, AR30, and the new Remington R 25. I'm looking for a reliable, accurate and bang for buck rifle. What would you guys suggest and why?

If you want to be able to legally use it anywhere but an approved range then an M14 or Rem 7600 type are your only real choices.
 
that would be a 7400= your 76 is a pump- typo?and i think the 'new" number is a 750- the m14 has to be something other than an h&r, winchester, springfield, or trw- they're all prohibited- a springfield armouries m1a is perfectly "legal"-, as is the norinco versions, and if you have the money to make one on a new receiver, that's legal too- and there's others i havent mentioned- the winchester 100 f'rinstance-the the rinco and the remmys are the most available
 
You asked a simple question with a half-dozen answers. The trouble is everyone who answers has a particular axe to grind. If you are interested in long range precision shooting that is one set of requirements. If you want to trudge through the swamps looking for deer or moose, that is a horse of a different colour. Can you be more specific?
 
I don't have one (yet) but I read a bunch up on the DPMS .308 ARs and I could find nothing but good reviews - bang vs buck

Your right Maple Leaf eh. Sorry about that guys.

I'm looking at a range of 500-1000 yards max. If needed, to trudge through the swamps, rain or shine. A rifle with a Heavy barrel, easy to maintain (pieces and parts), will be scoped, precision is a factor to consider, and reliable (quick 2nd shot). Doesn't matter if it's NR/R. Would like to have suggestions of both if possible

I do like Springfield M1A, a very nice looking rifle. Which ones are Non-Restricted? There must be about 2 or 3!

all of your m1as by springfield armory are non restricted- it's the m14and m14a1 et al by springfield armory that are prohibited- now, you say , hold on, looks like i've said the same thing twice, but i havent- first of all, the m1a and the m14 are 2 DIFFERENT rifles, even though they are MOSTLY IDENTICAL- it's the fun switch and the associated parts and the location of the take down notch that are different, essentially- and SPRINGFIELD ARMORY was run by the us government and closed down back in the 60's- SPRINGFIELD ARMORY is run as a PRIVATE CONCERN- has nothing to do with the us government

Valmet M78 or Valmet Hunter. Better than M14/M1A in almost every single way. Except price... Better start saving now if you want one.

I heard good things about the M1A. I'm undecided between the M1A and DPMS Panther LRT-SAAS or LR-308C. What do you think?

.308 (7.62x51) is a MUCH more common chambering for M78's here in Canada. There are 2 for sale in EE right now. 7.62x39 is much more rare and expensive.
Valmet Hunters (M88) never even came in 7.62x39.... .308 is the most common

Here's my M78 in .308 (middle one) and a modified Hunter in .308 (bottom one)

the springfields have had their problems as well as being over-priced like about x3- mostly out of spec receivers - that you can't fix- they probably have fixed that by now, but you still can't get any better deal than the nrinco
