Why did you buy the A2 upper and not the A4?

A2, some people like the KISS. If you are going to keep the gun with a carry handle irons and plan on having more than one upper for different roles and don't plan on putting optics on it later on down the road I see no problem.

Lots of people make IDF clones or M16A1 clones with have A2 uppers.

But to answer your question from looking at your pictures, I'd buy the A2 and not the A4 because the A2 is a middy compared to the carbine on the A4 :p

Bought before the A4 was introduced. Still, I think every black rifle collection would not be complete without one.

For my first AR build I ordered an A4 Midlength. It's still on backorder though. :(. I've been waiting for 4 months so far. Damn US export laws.

I don't know why you'd get an A2. There are way more options with an A4, you can always use a detachable carry handle and resale value is higher.

When I build an AR, it certainly won't be an A2. I'm thinking EOTech or Acog... what do you think? ;)

More options for toys with the A4. I can get over the knobs if I want to play with the more classic look of the A2.

don't own one YET. but will obtain one. i would get a a2 style either full or carbine. just because it is as close to the c7 i was issued back in the day.

good point. i'm realy old school. i quote jerry lewis - i love progress but i hate change. i guess what i'm trying to say is i love the stuff i trained on 15/ 20 years ago. never had the chance to operate the newer elcan sights or the m4 type c7's. but i'm a addict... buy a m4, and i would have to have the other gear. if i stay traditional/minamalist, i save money:). i think:confused:

The A4 is obviously more versatile, and I have one on my 16" midlength.

Still, I dig the simplicity of the A2 irons, actually they aren't simple enough for my liking. I'll be swapping out my A2 upper when I can track down a C7 style for my 11.5" upper.

If I were to only own one AR, or make a suggestion to someone shopping for a new rifle, I'd suggest the flattop for obvious reasons, but I'll always have iron sighted models in my collection since I'm into the retro and IDF/K.I.S.S. style as well.

A2 upper has a classic 80ies look.
The iron optics on the A2 handle is pretty good for most uses.

???:confused::confused: 80's look? Uh, growing up in the 60's and 70's, there were plenty of A2s and M16s on TV and movies and in real life way before the 80's. It was even around long before I first breathed air in the mid 60's.

Anyways, just don't like the A4 upper since I don't plan on adding any space accessories. I don't even leave my scope on it most of the time. Plain Jane with Irons is the only way to go. :)
