M14 Barrell Temperature

anyone know roughly how hot your barrell would get when you're doing normal shooting, by normal i mean.. 5 rounds over the space of 3 minutes

degree's C if possible :D

WHY ? Dont you have a thermometer ?????
What is more important is how far the barrel stretches -(barrel whip)

i want to know for the painting thats going to be going on .. what type of paint i should use.. should i splash out of my already overbudget project for milspec coating .. or can i get by with something less .

im wanting to know if i can cheap it

when i said roughly i mean as a general indicator

painting a barrel? ive been out of the game for a long while, i guess. the barrel can on a hot day get hot enough to cause cook off's. not comon but could happen. can and does get hot to the touch, after extended firing. for long shoots on summer days we used to cover our rifles. no trees or lack of, on most military rifle ranges back then atleast. can't see the barrel getting 300 c firing 5 rds at a time. if it were a g-pig or if you were just poppin 20rds mags off 1 after another for awhile. possible.

If 500C is cooking off, I suspect you aren't going to exceed 300C at a low rate of fire.

edit- 200C is 392F = cooking off, so you aren't going to go near 300C normally.

Yes. Its called parliament. We've got them too...

i LOL'd .. long and hard

well only reason i use a slower fire rate as an example is for just shooting on range/farm/hunting .. when it comes to zombies, i dont think im going to care about whether the paint is peeling off because my barrell is red hot, im just going to be trying to get the hell outa dodge
