Need a gun for my daughter...

Ditto on the .380 for small shooters/hands. You should be able to find something with a barrel length that keeps it in the restricted category. Despite what some people have posted, the calibre itself is NOT prohibited; it's a 9 mm (short).

I can get a new 380 into the country?

Over 4" ofcourse.

Yes you can, but the big problem is finding a 380 with a barrel over 105mm. 380s are designed as compact pistols, so almost all barrels are under 105mm. You would have to get a short one lengthened before import, so why bother with the expense.

So what does a 38 Super & 380 ACP have in common Trigun?

Other than, nearly the same bore diameter?

Back to 'gun school' with you! ;)

Aren't they exactly the same bore diameter? When exactly does "gun school" begin? Lol

But seriously, Thanks for all the good info guys. To answer many of the questions all at once...
Yes she shoots the .22 pistols very well. I have a Smith& Wesson 622, and my wife has a Sig Mosquito. So the "working up" angle is covered...

One thing that popped into my mind is one of the Tokerovs. but I don't really think I will go that way.

I am going to tinker with some really light loads that will cycle the action on the Kimber 9mm. I might have a part box of 90, or 100 grain bullets for the .380 kicking around those may function, if I can get them seated long enough...

I am a bit curious about why it has to be an automatic. Why can't you use a .38 spl revolver? Then loads can be tailored to the ability of an 11 yr old.

Is it something in the competition rules?

Brutus, your right about the .38 Super. It definitely does NOT fit this thread in anyway.

The reason I don't get a revolver in .38 special (which I am pretty sure I said I already have) is that she (my daughter) likes autos better.

The competition rules aren't a factor at all. We have classes for revolver, as well as open, factory, single action, novice, ladies etc... Just no rimfire...
In fact the only stipulation on firearms are that they be .38spcl/9mm and above...

Good luck on your quest Boomer454!

Since the last federal attack on our gun laws, for most Canadians, the option of a nice snubby S&W J-frame is sadly now gone.....all those Colt Agents/Cobras/Vipers and such too.:( :( :(

IF someday CCW is available here, in the Great White North, I hope previously prohibited firearms will be allowed importation.
Because I will have one HELL of a time, trying to conceal my 6 inch barrelled Colt 357 in the summer.

Sorry for straying off topic.

Boomer; would the organizers of your events not allow your daughter to shoot with a rimfire handgun?

Actually I am the organizer of our events. I am the Pistol committee director of our local club. We have a separate rimfire committee. I am not going to add Rimfire to my events, and the gut who is doing rimfire, has not (yet?) added an action match to his list of events.
The only reason I haven't added a rimfire category is that we use a lot of bowling pins. They shoot back with a .22! Also the way steel is scored is that it must fall to count. .22's just don't knock it over...

We may look at an all rimfire action match next year, but am not sure if I will be doing it or not...
