I am going to throw a new scope on the old man's rifle for his birthday on September 7. He shoots an ithaca lightwieght rifle in .308. A nice light little rig but would like a little more optical power than his fixed 4 and some more light gathering capability for his aging eyes. Debating the merrits of the Leupy VXIII over the VXII. A little help please boys some advice would be much appreciated.

If he's just hunting with it and not constantly messing with the zero I'd go with the VII in 3x9 or a 2x7. Price is good & optics will be a lot better if he is using an older/cheaper scope now. For that matter you could probably check out Burris, Nikon or Bushnell 3200 & find a difference. I would look to see where warranty work is done though, as it would be better if something did go wrong to keep it in Canada.

Zeiss Conquest with Rapid Z reticle. You can find them for the same price as the VXIII scopes these days.
Both are good scopes and I'm sure he'd be happy with either.

Thank you everyone we made the treck to the shop today and he tried them all and picked out the VXII in 3 -9. Getting it mounted up and bore sighted with some butler creek caps and a new sling. He is pretty happy.

Cheers
