What's the difference between 4 & 5... Their website (http://www.hk-usa.com) also list the SL8-6...

On Wolverine Supplies they says:
SL8-4: Short Picatinny rail, no sights
SL8-5: Long Picatinny rail, Iron sights

But I don't understand... (I'm a newbie and my mother tongue is French - not used to gun parts names).

Hi Alex, in french now... Bon "Picatinny Rail" est le genre de poignée sur le dessus de l'arme qui est en fait un rail pour monter des accessoires, principalement optiques; lunette, mire électronique, etc... Il y a le long rail ou le rail court.

"Iron sights" sont les mires sèches. Celle arrière est constituée d'une ouverture circulaire et celle d'en avant d'une pointe. Comme ça tu peux viser avec l'arme sans avoir de lunette ou de mire électronique.

It's the same gun, do you want to scope it ?? I personally bought the SL8-4 because I scoped it and the long rail was useless for me.

If you also want std sights then go for the SL8-5, but the rear sight may have to be removed to fit under your scope.

The SL8-6 is the latest US version.

Yes I plan to scope it in the near future, but std sights are always useful no? (I mean while the scope is off) Is the rear sight easily removable?

What the long rail is used for VS. short rail (what you can't do with a short that you can with a long)?

the long rail has the iron sights and more room to put stuff if you want.

the short rail is pretty much for an optic of your choice with no real "buis" room.

The cross slots to mount your scope rings are exactly the same on the long and short rail. The long rail just extends past where it is mounted to the rifle for the front sight. If you plan to use a scope with a large objective lens then get the SL8-4 with the short rail or you will need to mount it very high to clear the rail.

Here is a pic of my SL8-4 with a Burris Black Diamond scope with a 50mm objective.

most places sell the 4 and 5 for the same price...I still need to find out what (if anything) is different about the new 6 model.

The -6 is just the version number given to the US model. The US models have an indented mag well and reciever so it can only accept single stack magazines. This is required by US law reguarding import of foreign rifles.

And the 4-5 aren't indented and can accept dual stack mags??

I should have my sl8-4/g36k done next week pics will be posted It looks bad ass how I painted it :)

p.s do the ar mag conversion g36 mags are hard to find and really pricey

Keep an eye out on the EE they show up once in a while. Also look on HK Pro. There is a lot of stuff for sale there. Just remember to follow import laws.
