Hey guys, im currently living in BC. I was just wondering, my dad owns a CZ 75B pistol, am I legally allowed to take it to the range without him? I am 17 years old. I do have my minors firearms license and a membership at a club.

You may not be in posession of a firearm that you are not licensed for.

I'm not sure if a minor's license has a 'restricted' provision, but I'm guessing not.

If you have a restricted PAL, you may 'borrow' the gun with cert. paper and a valid ATT.

To paraphrase the above, - No.

You don't have an RPAL and you don't have your own ATT, you must have both.

This is exactly the reason why I don't recommend the youth license. A waste of time and money if you are not afforded the same privileges as a standard PAL/RPAL holder.

Do you know what you are talking about ????

A youth license allows the holder to use and possess (not own or purchase) any unrestricted.

The minimum age is 12 years old.

This allow the youth to hunt (with hunters' ed and tags), or shoot alone.

A waste it is DEFINATELY NOT !!!!!!

The younger we can get people started, the better !!!!!

To the original poster : No you cannot shoot the pistol without the owner present, and at a range.

I can't hardly believe you have to even ask this , But you came to the
right place at least.:p
Oh, to be that young again.

God, I remember when i was 16...got my FAC and went out a month later and got an AR-15 with 5 30 round mags and a case of 1200 surplus .223

those were the days

I'm well aware of what the youth license offers. I've been instructing the CFSC/CRFSC courses for several years now. A youth license is not required to "get started" in the firearms community or to hunt. Its nice that even youths are included in the useless system the government has created, but it doesn't offer the same privileges as a standard PAL/RPAL and is therefore a waste of time. If you can't purchase/borrow a firearm or purchase ammo without an adult with a PAL what's the point?

when you've had your youth permit for one year and you are 16 or older, you can have the "supervision by a licensed adult" requirement removed. So you can purchase ammunition, borrow a firearm indefinitly, and shoot usupervised.

When you turn 18 and pass your RPAL course, you will be able to... provided you live at the same address... and you are a member of a club where you can shoot restricted.

You simply have to have your dad send in a letter to the CFC stating that he authorizes you to transport and use his firearm. The individual cert# will be added to your ATT.

At least that's how I did it here many years ago.

To shoot or hunt alone.......Being able to this is a bad thing ??

"...not the same, therefore a waste of time".......Do you really believe this ???

Get ahold of the AHEIA and read up on the CFC website.........And maybe take the instructor's course again

Can anyone confirm this? So, now that I'm 17, I can go buy ammunition and go to the shooting range with a unrestricted firearm by myself?

So how does that help the 12-16 year old youths? For the youths on the high end it has benefits, then again why not wait a year or two and get your PAL. Shooting unsupervised is a non issue. Are you telling me that people actually sit next to their son/daughter when hunting because the regs say they must be supervised?

IMO, that's like saying an RPAL is a "waste of time" because it doesn't let you CCW.

Sure, it would be great if the Minor's POL was good for restricted, or if you could get an RPAL at 16, but the Minor's license gives you a fair bit of freedom in terms of non-restricted stuff.

You could wait, but why not get into game when you are interested? Shooting unsupervised is certainly a benefit. Maybe not when you are hunting with a PAL holder, but if you wanted to take a day trip to the range, take your gun camping, attend a shooting match, etc.

It may not be an RPAL, but it is certainly similar to a POL.
