22lr 10 round mags?

This question makes me wonder about using a higher capacity magazine with the new Ruger Charger that is out there. (I realize that it is technically illegal) I mean if you had you 10/22 with high cap mags out at the range and also a Charger..............

That's a neat toy, and don't forget the Tec-22. Those are so cool, I wish they were allowed. Saw one in a pawn shop in the states, I wanted to take it home so bad.

check out the Charger, newly released by ruger.
Questar's RRA 10-rd pistol mag rueling doesn't work in reverse. Just because you can use 10-rd pistol mags in a rifle doesn't mean that you can use 25-rd rimfire rifle mags in a pistol.

Or can you?

Until someone makes a more pistol'ish or tec-22 stock for the charger I am hoping someone makes another 22 pistol that uses 10/22 magazines.

I don't see why it wouldn't work that way. The LAR 10 rounders for the AR 15 are allowed because they were designed for the AR 15 pistol, but fit the rifle. The 10/22 50 rounders are designed for the 10/22 rifle, but will fit the charger.

Exactly. I run the 25 round mags in my charger. Lots o' fun.
The regs state that it was designed for the 10/22 rifle, the fact that it fits in handgun is just a bonus. (i.e. Beretta Storms using the pistol mags).
Also, the regs do state that mag capacities do not relate to the rimfires, even handguns.
(Under section 4, paragraph 2(a))

Beretta Storms using the pistol mags

Beretta 92 mags in a Storm can be 10rounds, just like the AR-15 pistol mags used in an AR15 rifle. Beretta Storm-marked mags must be pinned to 5 rounds. It doesn't make sense, but that was the ruling.

Using that precedent, a 25-rd 10/22 mag in a Charger would be a prohib device, no?

Nope.
Under paragraph 2(a) of section 4, it states that none of section 1(a) (the part that defines prohibited mags) does not apply to any mag designed for a rimfire cartridge.
Also, the same ruling that allows the 92 mags in the Storm, works in this case as well. They were designed for a 10/22 rifle, therefore are perfectly legal in a restricted firearm.

I would also argue that the law regarding 10 rnd mags refers to pistols "commonly available in Canada". Yeah, how do you define that?
