EDMONTON, AB M14 Clinic, Sat 08 Nov- Register here!

Holy  FZCK!! I'm astonished to see so many people jump in on this clinic. Remember, I ain't the expert or body of all M14 knowledge, BUT I have screwed up enough times and then recovered to build some fine shooting M14's afterwards.

Peace out,

Barney

If you'd show up to the local service rifle matches, you'd notice that 60-75% of all service rifles, in the match are M1A/M14S.

M14's are a very big hit in Alberta.

Airborne_69: When one of you Edmonchuk mentioned NRA High Power shooting at the Spruce Grove GC, I was pumped up because that's the game I got into before shooting CFSAC/NSCC Service Conditions game. The NRA High Power game is very dear to my heart and that's the avenue to all my M14 and M1 Garand tweaking. The rest is history and it lives in all of you M14 owners who have listened to many hours of my stale jokes and stories found on the 2004 Abbotsford M14 Clinic (still available for download). :D

gnmonty: Thanks for offering to carpool from Calgary. Trust me... listen to JayT and his reaction to the Calgary clinic hosted by the kind folks at TSE. He just cannot get enough of the M14 addiction. The drive will be worth all that knowledge, more stale jokes, more anecdotal stories, and best of all, more M14 CGNutz networking; Priceless !! :)

Hey Sosa.... have we got a limit of tables and chairs in the physical space of the Spruce Grove GC classroom ??? Hope we don't have to 'cap' the attendance like we had to in Calgary. With 28 bodies at The Shooting Edge, we were squeezed in there!

I don't think there will be too much of a limit there's quite a bit of room. I'm going to take a run out this weekend and count tables and chairs and such.

Here's a brief run down so far:

The Spruce Grove range http://www.sprucegrovegunclub.com/fac.shtml is located about 15 west of Edmonton on Hwy 16.
The range is nice and the building is large and heated.
The bad news: Bathroom are old fashioned one holers outside in the cold
There is no running water or food facilities on site.

The area where we can do most of the heavy work is going to be covered over but outdoors and quite large.

So far this is the equipment list that I have and am hoping to bring.
One service truck with generator, large vice, mig welder.
Two sets of work lights
One small drill press
One bench grinder
One disk/flat sander
One chop saw
Several drills hacksaws assorted punches rags hammers etc

I'm also hoping to get a few propane space heaters for the work area

If anyone else comming has or knows someone who does a second service truck would be a nice addition. Alao if anyone has a tig welder or tig spool for a miller that could be handy as well.

The plan so far is to do the lessons inside and then move outdoors for anyone who needs it.

There are rifle ranges up to 300m avaliable to use. A short one right behind the work area that can be used at our discretion and two other rifle ranges next door.

Every one who is a member of Spruce Grove should bring their memberships as nonmembers will have to be escorted when shooting on the other ranges.

I don't have a parkerizing set up built yet, I'm a crappy welder, but if someone does or want to build and bring one we can do that as well.

I'm hoping we can throw a pretty cool clinic here, so any suggestions or recomendations go right ahead.

More specifics will be posted as the promised time approaches.

Thanks
Sosa

Sosa: Trust me, all the heavy gear is worth all of the tweaking we will accomplish. WE got so much welding done (12 gas cylinders) at the Barrie Clinic this Jan 2008 , thanks to 'Ishootguns' and his mobile welding setup in a covered trailer. Hey, I might even have my 2 gas cylinders welded up at that clinic.

Large vise ? Great, I can bring my vise jaw blocks for some serious rebarreling... this is getting better and better!! :D

Anybody got a receiver wrench ? Or should I bring my "Princess Auto" 1 3/4" wrench (welfare styles price of $ 14.00) that's been slightly opened up?

Who wants to rebarrel at this clinic ? Or index their Norinco-Plinko?

If anyone has a spare rifle they don't mind loaning to my wife for the day so she has something to work on (she insisted on coming along, she wants to learn this stuff too) that would be awesome. I'd pick a second one up, but funds are scarce right now because of the wedding.

I'd say bring the house, Hungry, if we have the time, my wife will be adamant that we do it ALL to our M305!

Hungry
I will be travelling with my full m14 tool kit.
2 barrel vices
1 receiver wrench..... can prolly whip up another receiver wrench by then
headspace guages and other guages
bolt disassembly tool and roller greaser
some cool home made tools.... ie castlenut pliers, bolt roller tool....... gas port alignment rods....... "might" be able to bring the chop saw and a large worklight.......
kuhnhaussens shop manual...... ect ect ect
sorry, can't fit a tig in my Jeep or i'd haul that along too :D :D I ain't towin the trailer over the rockies in november LOL BUT.... my associate just informed me..... he may come along...... certified machinist, tig welder, fabricator/4x4/gunnut....... you have tig on hand..... i gots me an expert in tow ;)

Sounds like there's a metric ####load of barrel vises but few bench vises.

I've got at least one vise rigged to flat steel that can be clamped to a solid surface. I can probably steal another if need be.

Other than that Im bringing the road chest and some assorted files, punches, hammers, ect.

Yeah a vice like that would be great we can clamp or bolt it to a tailgate or truck bed to use it.

I'm also going to have a bolt disassembly tool and if wore comes to worst I will rent a TIG welder for the weekend.

I also have a few of the marster stainlees op rods left that I'll bring to the clinic.

I'm bringing at least one M1 Garand and 4 M14's of which at least one willl be unmodified so someone can use that to play with. I also want to change a barrrel to my shortie and reindex the other two.

My main build is going to be putting my Krieger heavy barrel and norc action together with the TRW bolt and USGI gas system and op system into a JAE stock:D:D:D:D:D

We can also dig up some bedding compound if we want to do that.

Thsi is going to be soooooooooo much fun:eek::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

Hungry here: What happens in the afternoon, we'll likely be setting up a bunch of workstaions. Then I will float around exercising the 'finger of authority' and point the finer factors of the specific tweaking process. You will all discover how easy things are to tweak and repeat the process again (especially the re-indexing) and again. Voila, you all get super good at this. Then many of you will circulate and begin helping and teaching each other. A true adult learning model .... that's why I'm a teacher !!

I'd like to bed mine too. I could steal some devcon from work to bring up. How much is needed?

Let's correct this:

I'd like to bed mine too. I have a corporate sponsor who is willing to donate the required materials to further support the shooting sports of Canada. They only require a list of materials needed and the quantities required.

Bedding materials ? Maybe a jar of Devcon since we only use about a tablespoon (no joking) for each M14. Maybe a bottle of Acetone to clean the curing resin (Devcon) from our fingers and oversqueeze.... ;)

I'm sure I can grab a can of devcon from work at no cost if needed. I'll grab some laquer thinner for cleanup as well. If holleyman or others are bringing some we'll surely be set for that.

I'm guessing we'll need some clay and masking tape as well. What works good for a release agent for devcon. At work we generally aren't too concerned about keeping it from sticking so I don't think we have anything.
