Elcan scope

I was super interested the Spectre DR myself. After doing the research, there's another scope in the same price point (tiny bit more $) called the Schmidt and Bender ShortDot. 1.1 - 4x illuminated reticle. The ShortDot got rave reviews and I didn't see a single negative posted anywhere, other than cost.

1. It is heavy and awkward.

2. It is NOT designed to be "used and abused".......It is externaly adjusted and loses zero for other reasons than the base.

3. It's reticle is slow to aquire and has very few features such as drop compensators or mildots.

4. Most guys in the military who say it's not bad HAVEN'T USED ANYTHING ELSE!

5. It is hard to co witness with a PROPPER BUIS, not the plastic one.

6. The stupid stubs on the top are high off the boreline and wear out. Why are they called battlesights?.......aren't all sights are for battle?

7. Most soldiers have problems determining a propper eye relief and it is often mounted too far backwards.

8. IMHO it's overpriced and with a little research you can do better.

I do know that a few 2VP (current battle group) in the Ghan took ACOG TA31F's with them instead of KevinB and Reaper's beloved (LOL :D) ELCAN. yuk yuk yuk

That's my after tax 2 cents worth....

Most of the boys on my tour had EoTechs, saw a few Aimpoints (Could be because KevinB brought a whole variety of optics & lending them to the troops including a Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40 LRT.) I took my Elcan off my C8 & put a carry handle sight instead and yes! I hate the Elcan that much

sights are always personal preferance. i personally like my ACOG RCO but was not allowed to use it over here. there were some (very few) EOTechs issued out to the troops, but if you have your own, even though its the same model as the issued, you werent allowed to use it. its f--ked up like that.

I like it for service rifle shoots, bright clear glass, picket post reticle, range adjustments match the ammo well.... would I use it in combat? Maybe not, mine gets treated very well, bashing it about in vehicles and in the field might not agree with it.

C'mon now.

I read some guy's --ramblings--, er I mean --drivel--, er I mean POSTS. Yeah, his posts about how you lack practical experience. No more name dropping of guys with man-dolls named after tham or diverting people with stories about "how you went on operational tours".

You're gonna have to face the grim 'has-been' reality that your "street-cred" doesn't carry as much "weight" as his.:p

There are people here who have been featured on the INTERNET, I tell you.

I'm not making this up.

if its such a piece of s**t, then how come my dad can make love with his Elcan mounted on his PE90 at 100 yards?

Maybe he's just well hung? :runaway:

Just kidding dude. Its a great Saturday morning after a night shoot and I'm just in a joking mood.

Have a good one.

Ah yes, "action figure" man who got sent home very early :)

He's quite a poser but inside he's a good man.

Some of us have been overseas a few times..You look familiar, where you there also? :p

I still stand that the Elcan sucks!

I'm a has-been of an earlier era...

Been out since 95ish. If you were jumping before that, we likely know the same lot of miscreants.
