A few questions for you M&P owners....

Are these "new" mag bases "new, improved", or simply the same part which broke?

Yes, please....I'd like to see pics of that. I'm sure my friend in the Columbus PD who beta-tested the original M&P would be interested to see those wear items as well. One of his fellow beta-testers was responsible for the little ridge that is now on the slide stop levers, as well as a few other recommended revisions.

I like my M&P40 a lot also. As I mentioned previously, S&W really did their homework on this fine service pistol. :)

Sounds like my story except I didn't have to pay shipping. After the second trip it got a new extractor and firing pin and hasn't hiccuped since.

I have to ask : are the series of dots on the dust cover just ahead of the triger guard, like this ::::: except 3 rows not 2? On a side note an envelope for my 2 free mags showed up in the mail last week. When i picked it up it up it was empty. I called smith and wesson and they said they would send me 2 more the next day. I'm hopefully waiting!

Turns out the left hand has no idea what the the right hand is doing. I spoke to several people at the rebate company who assured me that the rebates/mag offers were valid for Canadians, but today received a notice that 'it's not available in my state'.

I called S&W, and they couldn't/wouldn't do anything for me. The gentleman I spoke to said that in previous offers, Canadian customers were getting bent out of shape over having to pay the taxes on the mags, and were refusing delivery, so they got sent back. It was costing them too much money, so they stopped making it available to Canadians.

So to all of you that refused delivery of your mags, thanks for nothing!! :mad: Next time, forward them to me - I will pay the taxes!
 
Well, I finally got my rebate - about six months later. I actually got screwed at first because by the time my transfer was completed and I received the pistol and the receipt and sent in the rebate form the deal had expired - but I called S&W customer service who told me to send in the form for the current offer at the time and it would be honoured. I haven't got the mags yet so maybe I'm out of luck on those, but that's alright. I too sold my Glock after getting my M&P, it fits my hands better.

However, I'm really not happy with how it sites in and groups - at 25m MPI is 8" below my point of aim! I first thought it was operator error but it seems that it's not entirely my fault...
 
Glock vs. M&P

I love my Glock 17 and use it for IPSC although it took some time to get used to it from shooting revolvers. I bought an M&P .45 in May and have been extremely happy with it. I think it is shooter error, but for some reason I am getting better groups at 25 yards with my M&P. I have only shot around 1000 rounds with the M&P but have not encountered any problem with the product. The only issue I have is getting used to the safety, which the Glock has none.
The felt recoil is definitely higher due to the calibre change and the only gripe which isn't even my own are the complaints from adjacent shooters about the turbocharged ejection of casings. Hehehe....;)
I originally bought the M&P for the adjustable grip size with the intention of getting my wife to the range and figured it would be a better fit for her smaller hands. From what I've read about the M&P, the small grips were designed for smaller female shooters' hands to accomodate female police officers(the target market it was intended for).
I would definitely recommend the M&P as an addition to any shooter's collection. :dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

8" below POA @ 25m, sounds like you're driving the dot - aligning the dot on the target, not the sights. Try ignoring the dot and concentrating on the top corners of the front sight, also if you're aligning your sights on the bottom of the target (the target is "sitting on" the front sight") you're going to be shooting low - obscure the lower half of the target with the sights, it is a combat pistol, not a target gun.

I spent $11 for sending it by registered post:mad: Atleast would S&W send $30 rebated instead of the mag? Anyone called them?
 
The M&P 40 which I own, is the most versatile compared to the 9mm version. You can get a Stormlake Match conversion barrel which allows you to shoot 9mm rounds in the 40SW version of the gun, you can also get a 357SIG barrel, that once again, only fits in the 40cal version of the gun.

So by buying the M&P 40, you can shoot 9mm and 357sig all out of the same gun with barrel swaps.

The barrel swapping CANNOT be done with the M&P 9mm, or the M&P 45acp versions of the pistol. only works with the 40SW version.

Isn't that enough of a reason to pick the 40SW version over the 9mm version?

Or for even less money Brownell's will sell you a factory Smith & Wesson barrel in either 9x19 or .357 Sig...

A 9mm factory replacement barrel has too small of a diameter to properly fit the slide of a 40SW version of the gun, thats why you need the conversion Stormlake barrel, they make it thicker to properly fit the slide.
 
I have 10, 000 rounds through my M&P 40, not a stoppage. Yes there was a mag release problem but call them and they will send you the part. Love it...

You are wrong - the barrels are externally exactly the same, the only difference being the diameter of the bore.

Think - then post. Best if it's based on experience and not information from the Errornet. I have barrels in 9x19 & .357 Sig and use them with no issue in my MP40 to the tune of about 4K apiece.
