7.62x39 ammo shortage

McBain - I think that's one of the best ideas I've heard in quite some time...I'm sure the Frau will be appreciative, too.

But really, it's all about the ammo. ;)

Yea and then when you get arrested crossing the border for breaking US export laws you can feel consoled that you baught ammo that was taken away and got to have ###.

Deffinately a good idea :rolleyes:

Great..

You did not break any CANDADIAN laws.

However

You just admitted to breaking a SLEW of American laws.

Hint........do not drop the soap!

Wow I guess I really screwed up! Next time I won't bother taking the word of 3 Canadian and 1 American guards/agents when they tell me it's legal. I guess they're all ignorant. Thank god for you guys!

pulled right from CSBA WEB SITE.

You may import authorized sporting and competitive ammunition and reloading components for your personal use.

Quantities that may be imported for personal use and not for sale without requiring an Explosives Importation Permit from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) include:

small-arms, sporting ammunition, up to a maximum of 5,000 rounds;
primers, up to a quantity of 5,000;
empty primed cartridge cases, up to a quantity of 5,000; and
propellants, smokeless powder in containers not exceeding 4 kilograms and black powder in containers not exceeding 500 grams, up to a maximum total combined quantity of 8 kilograms, (17.66 pounds).

Now, what am I missing!

Your missing out on the American laws from the US DOS/ATF and US Custom thats says it can not be exported out of the country.

I think your confusing our import laws with the US's export laws.

Ah my good man.............

But it takes only ONE American Agent who actually knows the laws and

YOU ARE POOCHED!!

It is like playing the lottery I guess.

It is an American law that you cant export that stuff , but , I called the ATF in Montana and told them I was a Canadian and wanted to come down to get some ammo and would I have any problems buying it there and bringing it back , they told me to just make sure I knew the laws of bringing it back to Canada and it would be ok.
I dont even think they know thier laws !!!!

Gun shop at the Stittsville range had quite a few cases of ammo in stock, and I was there this afternoon.

Purely out of curiosity; is there a limit on how many rounds a Canadian can possess? I for instance, keep at least 2K of ammo for my FAL, Vz.58, and AR-15 each, and then around 200rds. for each of my curio and relic rifles; plus 500rds. for each primary handgun, and 200 for my .38 Snubby. Sure, it can fluctuate, but in general those are the levels that I am comfortable with. I know that the Kiwi's and Brits are restricted to a paltry amount of ammo; has that made it's way to Canada yet?

It's really a shame that any ammo is in short supply. It's not like there are billions upon billions of rounds floating around the globe. True market price for a 7.62x39 should be around 3 cents per round.

No there is no limit. That would be silly....
The fact that the UK limits all remaining gunowners to a specific amount of ammunition for each firearm speaks volumes about how stupid that idea is...

...especially when you keep in mind that the UK is also home to prohibitions/restrictions on the ownership of swords and knives and has seen proposals for bans/restrictions on other "midieval" weapons. That whole country semms to be :onCrack: - problem is, Canada seems to be slowly following suit...

That would be what is called a global shift, and its about way more then guns or the illusion of public safety.

Epps still had some crates of the czech stuff the last time I was in there $179, I think. The U.S. State department won't let anything to be exported to Canada in that caliber or anything that says AK or SKS, or anything with .50 cal. (i.e. .50 BMG, .50 AE, bullets, brass, or loaded ammo) so I'm told. They are afraid of it being used on them in the war in Iraq or something stupid like that. Like there is any shortage of this stuff coming from Russia or southern asia.:slap:

Brass and lead are fine. The ban is on ammo, primers and powder.

There is a shop in the U.S called brassmanbrass who ships to me all the time from the U.S.

I presume they get a US Export Permit and you have the corresponding import permit?

All components, including empty brass and bullets (projectiles) are on the controlled list for export to Canada.
