OT: Father/Son Project - What Accessory Do You want Designed?

Hello,

My son wants to learn the Computer Aided Design Software package I use for work (Solidworks).

I got to thinking that I'd like to design and market an accessory for the shotgun segment. I could then show him the process of what has to be done to research, develop, model, and then manufacture the part.

It could be a redesign of an existing product or something new.

Would be for the Remington 870 as that is what I have access to as a pattern for the design (i.e. can take measurements from it). Can always "port" it over to other types.

Question: If you had the time and resources what practical shotgun accessory would you like to see developed?

I would like a top rail to mount optics which mounts to the barrel without drilling and tapping and which extends over the reciever also without drilling or tapping.
This is so I can switch between a longer barrel without optics and a shorter tactical barrel.
Would require a clamp at the end of the barrel and perhaps something like a sidesaddle mount to support the reciever end.

i would like a full barrell/reciever shroud .. looking at what i just wrote thats kinda vague :D .. i mean like a SAGE EBR type stock/shroud for the 870 .. this is by no means a small project.. but it would be cool, scratch that, tacti-cool ..
but easy for mounting lights, optics, grips, bipod? if you use slugs long range
perhaps with a spring loaded bayonet ? haha now im just getting carried away
 
Sadly, I think every possible useful 870 accessory has probably been manufactured already.

The only thing I've ever wanted for an 870 but couldn't find, was a nice Pepper Laminate stock and forend set. I think it would be the teats for an all weather shotgun!
 
Project ?!?!

I always wanted to be able to mount a side-folding bayonet on the shotgun! Something like the VZ52 would be nice... for when the zombi show up :shotgun:

i like top folding stocks for their compact ability...but i hate shooting them. so if you could find a way to make it not hurt than you would be my hero:D
....i dunno if its possible and it probubly sound dumb but an adapter to go from 870 to 1300 stocks would be KILLER. i hate not having many choices for my 1300
 
Keep the ideas coming.
As this is a brainstorming session no idea is verbotten.
Note - during this session it is against the rules to make fun of the other persons ideas.

The whole point of this excercise is for me to get ideas - even ones that may sound dumb may actually lead to snippets of ideas that -- combined with other "dumb" ideas -- may lead to something (the only time two wrongs may be right).

So keep the ideas coming...

A bayonet for the 12.5 Grizzly that folds to the side or slides out foreward.

A set of ghost ring sites which can be installed without drilling, welding or gunsmithing.

X2 on the 12.5 heat shield.
