I am looking at picking up a nicer sks or a cz858 for range plinking (im not too worried about accuracy)

which one would you guys/girls reccomend

I'd say both. SKS is dirt cheap, so you might as well have it, if only to loan to people while you shoot your cz

SKS is a pretty fun shooter, as much fun as the CZ; it's just heavier and not as accurate lol

I personally like shooting both, and don't see why you have to stop shooting one just because you started with another...

nicest norinco sks will cost you half of the cz858 so start with that first and then graduate to the cz .

are the reliability issues with the CZ an issue

it depends on how much experience you have , i dont consider it an issue but maybe for you it is so that why you start with a sks , its reliable and built like a tank .

If your just throwing lead the SKS is fine. If you want to hit something I would go for the CZ.

bull and ####... LOL

i was doing easy 3" groups with a sks at 100yds with the surplus ammo. for shooting milk jugs and fun factor that is plent accurate. and with an sks the price is too cheap not to have one, lol

x2

Gophers are fun to shoot with both rifles as well, I like to switch it up now and then.

Question.

I have a CZ 858, and while I don't know my grouping (I just shoot sillouettes), I'm consistantly able to hit them at 300 yds. At 400 & 500 yds I'm occasionally able to hit them. However I know this is just me, and I need pratice.

I came accross an SKS-D that is scoped (3x?). Anyway I decided that I just had to get it. What kind of accuracy should I expect from it (it's still in the mail)? I'll just be shooting surplus. As it's scoped, I'm hoping to be able to consistantly hit the targets between 300m - 500m (because I should actually be able to see them clearly).

Is this realistic?

The round gets kinda useless 300m+

I keep it around 200m about 90% of my shooting.

Thats me hunting yotes and the such , I don't plink that often with it.

Have both sks and a cz858 both shot well but I have to admit the 858 is the better of the two.Titer groups and flawless operation. But there's a third choice, there a little rare at times but a cz 52/57 is another option.it's chamberd in the same round, just as acurate as the 858 not to mention a cool flip out baonet. You can usualy find them at gun shows between $250 to $400. Or you can pick up a norinco m14 and lookout for some cheap african ball.last back I bought was around $.45 a round it came in 1250 round lots. that was a year and a half ago though? Happy hunting!

Have SKS Yugo and CZ, since I got CZ my sks is "retired" and become part of the history...Will keep SKS just for collection, SKS is pain to clean after corrosive ammo...not accurate compare with CZ....Trigger pull on SKS is something….but both SKS and CZ are very reliable. Get them both if you can have good prize for SKS, and if you don't like it will sells in 5 min

I have an SKS-D, with an aftermarket(tapco) pistol-grip stock. So it has the coolness factor. But a VZ858 just has a bit more "piss off a LIEberal factor", plus it is lighter, more comfortable, and more accurate. As far as reliable, my sks is built like a tank, Ive never had a problem with it, and It'll hit paper at 200 no problem!!

Do you have a CZ? I didn't say you can't hit things with the SKS, believe me I have had a few, but I would take the CZ over it any day. Oh yeah, three inch groups ain't that $hit hot chief. A 50$ Enfield will do that.
