Ok I am in the market for a 454 Casull. for recycling purposes at the range you know water jugs Phone books, fun stuff.

I know the two most popular revolvers in this caliber is the Ruger Super Redhawk an the Raging Bull form Taurus.

My question is not to bash one brand but what revolver has the better feel. If I were to get the Raging bull , it would be a five inch barrel. If I were to get the Ruger I would have it cut down to Five inches. I read the taurus needs two hands to open the cylinder. Is it a pain in the liberal to get it open? Does anyone have experiance with either to compare which is the better revolver. Which one in your opinion looks better. Just curious. I like the look of the Taurus. But looks are deceiving More interested in function. Price is another factor. Remember I want to cut down the ruger. Again just personal preference.

Thanks for the help.

I used to have a .44mag Raging Bull, still don't know why I sold it... biggest gun related regret ever! :( It was very well made and very accurate with a great trigger to boot. Porting and soft rubber grips are a plus too. At least I used the cash to get a PT1911 :)

My next handgun will likely be a stainless 5in Raging Bull in .454. I'm just waiting for the next shipment to Canada.

Btw you need two hands to open the cylinder with any revolver if you care about the gun. Push the release with your right hands thumb and use the other hand to push the cylinder out (swinging the cylinder open is not good for the gun). With Raging Bull it doesn’t take any longer; only difference is just before you push the cylinder you pull the other latch down - takes a second.

fwiw I’m not a fan of Ruger firearms.

My first impression while handling the Taurus - this feels and looks like junk. The latch arrangement seems like an afterthought. Ruger is more likely the working mans gun - It takes all of the longer barrel on mine to get bullets up to speed. Trigger pull is nice and accuracy is always impressive if a little time is left between shots. I may not flinch, but I get an involuntary tremble if I shoot it too quick. Clean the cylinder carefully between using .45 and .454.

Maybe someone else has another view?

I have a Raging Bull in .44mag. I haven't shot a Ruger, so I can't make any comparison. I have really liked the Taurus and deploying the double safety to open the cylinder is no problem at all.

Another thing to consider is that Taurus is a DA/SA, while Ruger is SA. How are you going to double tap a SA .454 revolver? :D

The Ruger is a better gun. More durable, better finished and more reliable.
I have seen quite a few of the Raging Bulls crap out quite quickly.

Have both the Ruger and the Taurus. Feel and ergonomics goes to Taurus in the 454. Unfortunately the only issue with the Bull is the severe lack of customer service in Canada should you encounter a problem. The importer/distributor is of no assistance at all and spends more time bashing them than trying to rectify the problem. Not sure why they dont let somebody else carry the line who is more customer oriented, but thats another rant..
Ruger is a dam fine gun as well and built like a tank. I just dont like the feel but using a Hogue grip makes a huge difference

So the life time warranty is out the door here in Canada? Or is there a way to send it back to the manufacturer? What can be the worst thing to happen aside from total frame failer. Any Gunsmith can fix the internals NO? Probably cheaper then jumping through the hoops to get it out of the country.

FN Sports brings them in to Canada and handles the warranty. I never had a problem with Taurus guns so can't comment on their customer service.

Are you handloading? If so, the Ruger is the way to go. It has much more steel, and can withstand much higher pressures as a result.

Good luck.
