Nightforce 1-4 or Elcan spectre DR ??

What style of shooting are you doing, on which rifle?

I have a nightforce 2.5-10 mildot on my XCR. Mostly prone unsupported at the range, but I have also used it for yotes, and gophers. I went with the mildot because I did not want to learn another reticule.

im gonna use it on a AR 10.5 and a Tavor . Mostly shooting paper up to 50M at my range . I would love to go gopher hunting but none here in quebec , at least not like in the prairies . Im leaning towards the NF because it s available now .

Nightforce

DEFINITELY The Nightforce.

The ElCan is unreliable at best. The Nightforce is more scope than you'll need for you Tavor or your AR, but you don't want the Elcan. In fact they're both more scope than you need for anything at 50M, I would go with an EoTech/Aimpoint.

If you want something for longer range, get a Leupold Mk4 MRT.

By the way, try a search for the Spectre DR on here, there are already several threads where a number of shooters have listed their complaints with the optic.

Cheers.

I ve red a couple and even started one i think . But they all talk about the old model . Newer model isnt out yet . i ve considered a compM2 but would like to take the Tavor for gopher hunting too . The NF would work well for the 2 situation .

The newer model IS a bit better. Out of the new generation batch we tested, there were a lot less scopes with the zero-loss problem. So it seems that Elcan is at least improving them, and I can't ask for more than that.

However, some of the new models still do have issues when flipped back & forth, so I don't, and won't trust them.

Besides, the more moving parts, the more potential problems. I would still go with the Nightforce.

Cheers.

For 1800 bucks, I will say go for NF.

Based on the "heresay" going around the internet from people who seem to have used them in the field, they are not liked or have broken quite quickly.

Elcans are poo at a champaign price. Very interesting ideas but there are reasons other larger companies are passing on those ideas; cause they are really difficult to make dependable.

Get a short dot or something that is proven and chosen by people who have a choice.
