GENERAL INFO

Magazines:

*The factory 5 round mags cannot be disassembled as stated in the manual. They are 10 round mags that use a spacer and have been sonically welded closed at the factory.

*The use of G36 mags requires one of 2 modifications for them to fit:
1)The first and most common way is to remove the 2 small tabs inside the receiver to allow the mags to fit in. Only remove the vertical part of the tab up to where it meets the little horizontal piece. These 2 tabs are why there are 2 indents on the factory 5 round mags.
sl8-magblock.jpg

2)The second is to cut 2 indents into the G36 mag. This method is not preferred because G36 mags are hard to come by and altering them decreases their value.

AR-15 mag well adapter

Installing an AR-15 mag well adapter on the SL8 is simple. Remove the factory mag well as per the user manual instructions. Then push out the pin that holds the mag release button. Remove the mag release and spring. (try not to lose any parts) The factory mag release are not needed with this conversion. Then install the AR-15 adapter in reverse order. For the AR mags to fit you must also remove the tabs in the receiver, as noted in the use of G36 mags above. However, you dont need to remove as much. AR mags are about 4mm wider than the SL8 mags, so only 2mm from each side needs to be removed

If you want to be able to swap between the 2 mag wells on-the-fly, cut a notch in the back of the AR-15 mag well adapter so it matches the factory one. This will allow space needed for the factory mag release. The AR mags will not be drop free. You will have to pull them out.

Damn....those are nice 'tachments!

CPC better win-give me a chance to save up for an SL-8....guess I'll put the M305 on hold!
Don't need another 308 anyway.

Has anyone got the folding stock kit from sl-8.de? I can't seem to find a way where you can buy it, it just shows pictures without prices and without a means of payment.

They seem to have another G36 folding stock listed at 465 Euros ($710 Canadian). This stock is missing the safety, trigger, etc so you would have to strip your existing SL8 stock for parts.

TN_sm.jpg

They offer a complete second set of parts for that stock for 265 extra euros making it somewhat complete and ready to slap onto your SL8. That totals $1100 Canadian for the complete stock.

That is assuming I am reading it right. Autotranslaters are painful.

I doubt I would jump back and forth between stocks a lot, so the stripped down stock looks like a good deal to me. I had been thinking about going for an SL8 with a H.E.R.A stock adapter but this looks a lot more fun. But for that price I may give up and just get a lovely green swiss rifle. Decisions decisions...

is the G36 conversion stock longer then the the real G36 stock?

The LOP is slightly longer than the G36 due to the mounting screw location on the original stock. This can be adjusted by replacing the standard folding stock with a G36C folding stock. The G36C folding stock has a shorter LOP.

lil confused on what im reading, now does a sl8 become restricted with the folding stock? or is that the grey area due to OAL

IF it is registered as non-restricted and stays over 26 inches when the stock is in the folded position it stays non-restricted. If it is registered as non-restricted and is less than 26 inches when the stock is in the folded position it becomes prohibited.

If you put a factory made barrel on it that is less than 18.5 inches (470mm) you have to register it as resticted. Once it is registered as restricted if you put the folding stock on it the OAL will not matter.
(Someone correct me if I have worded this wrong)

18.5" no?

so a G36C stock is shorter then a simple G36.

All these barbie dressing things sound fun, but in the end its gonna cost a load of cash.

so as long as its 26 inch folded your non restricted, gotcha , thanks

stuck between getting an SL8 and converting it to the g36 style or getting the swissarm 550

Right, other than I personally would have the classification, ie. restricted, changed before putting on the shorter factory barrel. But it's the cart before the horse thing, in that CFC will want it verified before completing the status change. But at least if you notify them before putting on a shorter barrel, you should be OK.

Yes, 18.5 (470mm). Thanks for the correction. The G36C has a shorter stock
and barrel than the G36.
