The conversion process itself was pretty straightforward, thanks to the excellent information provided in this sticky. Particularly helpful was the article on shaving down the genuine G36 Trigger Housing to fit the SL8 Receiver. In any case, it all came together once I figured out how to strip and reassemble the typically over-complicated German Trigger Mechanism. Mein Gott, what a pain in the arse the first couple of times!

The previous owner had the barrel cut to 18.6" and threaded 1/28. I was able to obtain a 1/28 threaded HK Flash Hider from HKParts.net to give it the correct look. When purchased, the rifle had been converted using the "Top Notch" one-piece conversion kit. I wanted something a little bit closer to the genuine article, so for that and a few other reasons (eg. to provide more weight in the rear to balance out the front-heavy weight of the match barrel) I decided to go with the HDPS aluminum Stock-Block system.

The new type front handguards seem to not accept the HK bipod. Any other solutions for a similar bipod? Also... where could I source a G36 bipod and possibly older style front handguard in Canada?

Questions -
1/ Where did you get the G36K barrel? I'd love to pick up one of those.
2/ Where did you get the tools (I'm assuming you used a barrel wrench and barrel mandrel) to do the barrel swap?

So on my sl8 the previous owner had installed the Spuhr ar15 magwell and bolt release.

I converted it back to G36 configurationand bought some legit HK 5/30 mags. Thinking since its a non US version that takes double stack mags that g36 mags would fit. at $90 a piece they infact dont.

Noticed the SL8 mag has a crimping to the forward lips of the top of the mag that g36 mags dont. This is blocking them being fully seated.

For you G36 conversion owners out there, how did you fit them ? have to demel out a part of the reciver well ?
 
I wish I had a short barrel on mine. Love the way it looks and I bet the balance would improve 100%.
I had the G-36 rear folding stock and went back to stock. I couldn't get it comfortable. The folding stock was too long and with jackets the distance couldn't be shortened enough to make it work. Little Alligator arms, lol. I tried a shorter stock and found when folded the stock would block the ejection port if you wanted to fire it and this one I had didn't have a cheek adjustment for precision shooting.

I did put on the stock H&K bi-pod with the dual optic grab handle. 3 to 1 sight with an upper red dot. Great shooter

G36 5/30 p mags can be modified to work without modifying the receiver
