Hey guys,

Has anyone had experience feeding an SVI Inifnity with CMB (Combat Masters) .40 reloads? I will get into reloading and then I understand it's an overall length issue depending on bullet choice, my plan was to start this winter. In the meantime I have alot of CMB .40 Major left over I would like to shoot. I realize that the issue can be particular to individual pistols, I'm just after relative experience.

I'd also be curious about STI Edge feeding?

Make sure that the over all length is between 1.18 and 1.20 for the ammo you are using. Also it may be that you have mag issues and they need to be tuned. Welcome to the world of tuning and tinkering. These guns all have there own personalities and once you do dial them in they are a dream to shoot.

every gun is different. I found my Edge worked pretty flawless with perhaps 2000rds of CBDX .40.
However, I did have the heavy recoil master in it. (what does the SVI have in it,...a lighter spring may cause FTF issues!??)
I noticed if I released the slide using the slide release lever,..it sometimes hesitated to feed. The ramp angle was kinda steep.
My mags had no issues. I am not sure of the SVI recoil spring weights or what you may have,.but this may be something to look at.

Thanks for the information. I should have clarified, I'm in a position to finally buy either and Edge or an SVI, I realize the price difference but that is not what concerns me. If I pick one up I am guessing that I will have to start reloading asap for it to feed, and I'm not sure I'll have the time until the new year or even the spring (my consulting job generally keeps me away from home WAY to much)

I'll figure it out though. :) Thanks again!

I load long, about 1.21 or so, truncated cone and some round nose plated. Never had a problem. SVI using STI mags.

That does help! I meant to ask you about it when I was doing the deal with yah the other day. I look forward to the new SVI Duotone showing up so I can test it out! :D

I have a new SVI Infinity and have used a few boxes of number of different brands of 0.40 ammo and have feed issues with them all. I've been told that it takes about a 1000rounds through the gun to "break it in". I'm not there yet.

So I think you can expect some issues to start - shame given the cost.

if you are using factory ammo - which is usually shorter then what SVI recommends, I strongly recommend American Eagle, this is what I personally use right now and have no feeding issues, did have some with the Winchester winclean.

regardless if you are using your own loads or factory, any NEW SVI will require a break-in period, keep in mind that these are custom made pistols with extremely low tolerances

So a week or two and it should be good and broken in??? hahaha ;)

So, why do SVI tend to favor longer OAL?

anywhere between 1500 & 2000 rounds should do the trick.

the ammo specs recommended by SVI are because this is what works best in their firearms. Tried, Tested & True !!

All 2011's are set up to run longer loads than the usual factory spec. See below.

(Quoted from the Jeff Maass reloading pages): Cartridge Overall Length (OAL)
Many of the .40S&W handguns in use were developed from 9x19 handgun ‘roots’, and the SAAMI maximum Cartridge Overall Length ( 1.135”) for the .40S&W was set to accommodate the limitations of the magazines available for those designs. With the use of the .40S&W in 1911-pattern guns, the magazines will accommodate much longer OALs, and in many cases these longer cartridges will feed better in those guns.

BTT with an update. I recieved the pistol......hmmm...(pics in another thread) and took it tdown to TSE today for a run. 60 rounds of CMB .40 Major...NO PROBLEM AT ALL.....I know it's not a huge torture test, but it was better than I thought it would be. I'm still getting set up to load myself...but it's nice to know there is a workable 'commercial' solution.

I think OAL on the CMB is around 1.12 - 1.13...shorter than recommended.

I go with 1.165-1.17 with Montana Gold and 4.8-9 TG.
It made 174PF at Quebec Provincials.
Good investment is an Aftec extractor.

Another 250 rounds of the CMB reloads. The box is labeled 180gr major loads for the 2008 nationals I think? Not one FFTF. Excellent. ;)

:dancingbanana:I LOVE THIS PISTOL!!!!!:dancingbanana:

I have about 3000+ rds of .40 sitting in my basement,...all CBM,...I expect to fire 3000rds with "0" problems out of my Tanfoglio,...I would expect the same from the Edge I used to own.

The CBM ammo is great stuff. I've put near 2500 rounds through various pistols and it hasn't failed yet. I'm just surprised and happy it runs through the SVI so easily. :D
