I don't have it yet...it's been a week tomorrow since it was mailed and I live in BC. took my brother 10 days before he got his. fortunately I'm patient. I have a brother that can buy my firearms!

I just checked and my RPAL was issued today. It took exactly 30 days since they received my application. They called me twice on separate days asking the usual questions. Not sure if they called my references.

It has been 30 days now since I sent in my application. Thursday, I was called by someone at RCMP-Miramachi and asked me all kinds of questions.

Also, both of my references were called. One wasn't home, and I assume they will contact him on Tuesday, after the long weekend.

I hope it doesn't take too much longer to receive. I've checked the online site and it only says my app has completed initial processing, and it's said that for 25 days.

Anyone else been at this point; how long did it take to get your license?

What question did the GRC's ask you?

I (and my references) got called about 10 days after they got my application. Basically I was just asked the same questions I already answered on the application such as: During the past 5 years have you been charged with a crime, attempted or threatened suicide, lost a job or declared backruptcy in the past 2 years, ect, ect.

My references were asked the basics:

Were you forced to sign the application or act as a reference?
Are you alone and free to talk openly about the applicant?
Has the applicant ever shown a fascination with workplace/school shootings?
What would you do if you suspected the applicant was going to commit a violent act?, among others.

They basically asked me the same questions on the form I mailed in. In addition, I was also asked "WHY" I wanted a restricted weapon. I had to state a reason. mine was target-shooting. They started out with cross-checking my ID, for security reasons, to make sure I was the one who sent in the application.

My references were asked kind of silly things, like Am I an angry person, Am I violent or have I showed violent tendencies, have you ever seen him lose his temper, can you think of any reason why this person should not be allowed restricted weapons. Really basic stuff.

I think they are only trying to cover themselves in case someone they "approved" for a restricted license goes beserk. It can happen, no matter how statistically improbable.

When I applied for my non-restricted PAL a year earlier, I wasn't called, and neither of my references were called. It seems to me that they investigate further or more in-depth when you move up to the restricted class.

Why they would consider a handgun more dangerous than a scoped, bolt action rifle capable of hitting targets out to 600-800-1000 yards, there are probably reasons, but I think they are just following the orders of their employer, and checking references is part of their job.

I'll post when I get my RPAL, or if they delay it for no good reason. I've heard from a few that their's were delayed for no good reason or no reason at all, but this has always been a friend of a friend, etc. If anyone has had this happen to them first-hand, I'd really like to hear some details.

I hope this answers your question.

I passed the R-PAL test over three weeks ago and called the CFOs office to find out if the results had been processed. I was then told as its only been three weeks it could be a while longer. Damn hunting season.

The CFC website regarding my application to upgrade from a PAL to a RPAL has been changed to show my application has been approved. It will take up to 2 weeks more to actually receive the license.

From the date the CFC received my application, it took 51 days to approve, and it will be another 1-2 weeks before I get the license in the mail. Both my references were checked 32 days after the CFC received it.

I post this info for anyone else waiting and wanting to know how fast other applicants are being approved.
