Norinco 7.62x25mm Tokarev OR Norinco 1911A1

which one u guys will preffer for self defense and as a CCW.
personnely i will prefer an Norinco TT-33.this is little pistol is a hand cannon:shotgun:

The tt-33 is a nice firearm and it shoots an awesome round: the 7.62x25mm Tokarev round. Youtube for tokarev tt33 and you'll see it in action. It's also cheap to shoot (2280 rounds for about $220). It's argued by some that the Tokarev is a superior combat pistol than the 1911 by design, also. Accessories are virtually non-existent (except leather holsters), but ammo is plentiful if you know where to find it, and parts are fairly easy to find.

The 1911 is also tried, tested and true, but it will cost you more: more for the gun, and a lot more per round of ammunition, depending on the calibre you choose. Lots of accessories for the 1911, and parts are probably the easiest to find in the industry. Ammo is available pretty much anywhere.

One last note: In Canada, it is illegal to carry a firearm for personal defense, unless you have the proper permit (which is not being issued by the provincial chief firearm officers, except in very specific situations)

And, in all of the United States - in some of which you may be permitted to carry a concealed firearm - neither Norinco is admissable.

You'll just have to choose something else for CCW.

There are Torks and norinco 1911's down there already. The biggest issue for the tork is no safety and poor sights. You could have a custom IWB holster made for you to fit the Tork.

A Norc Tok for CCW? it's not really an accurate firearm, + I think I would require a more dependable firearm if I were to carry it.
Anyway, I would go with a 1911. More aftermarket parts, and I'm not sure a hand cannon round is what I would chose for ccw due to overpenetration issues. A .45 is slower and heavier, which IMHO make he round itself better for personal protection.

If CCW was allowed...

If CCW was allowed in Canada, and I had qualified for it and was designated, I wouldn't hesitate to carry my 'new series' Norc compact [commander] in .45ACP..... It digests Fiocchi 230 gr JHP's flawlessly.

Never owned a Tok but doubt it would be a consideration for me under the same scenario.

I'd be happy to carry a Glock, too. The G22 .40 cal would be my first choice.....

My .02............................

if you're having accuracy problems with your norc tok, you need to expieriment with different loads- i've found mine to be right on par with my beretta 92, but i had to monkey with both bullet weight and powder charge- ended up with 4,9 of 231 and a 130 grain bullet, which some manuals say is over- all barrels are like that- some like 115s, some 124s, and some 130- which is the old 38 super slug- i don't know what the 7.62x25 round is like, i just use the 9mm

I dont have accuracy problemswith it mainly cause I dont own one anymore :D
But for CCW purposes you dont want to experiment with different loads. If I were to carry, I would only use factory ammo due to legal issues. And then I would only se the same caliber/brand/type of ammunition that the police would use.
And in my experience(emphasis MY) Nork tocs were damn inaccurate with available factory ammo I tried feeding.
Of course, YMMV.

the very first thing i do when i buy a new-to-me gun, any gun, is see how it shoots against a known gun in my collection, using my own handloads- if i were to follow your example and use what the local constabulry uses, it would be something in 40 short &wide, which the norc doesn't come in so that would mean custom barrel right there- and i've had "factory" loads fail on me too- granted it's been few and far between , but i've had more than one round with NO FLASH HOLE- cup is there, flashhole is absent-since ccw is interpeted as drawing for self defense , the last thing on my mind is legality of my ammo

I would love to get a Norinco toks too, dont see any retailer has it, ha but I got my Russian tt33 today, cant wait to try it this weekend. wonder if the Norinco is better than the Russina one?

Just got my 9mm barrel (with link and pin) and bushing from Gunnar over at ARMco.
The barrel shoots extremely well. At first I had a few stoppages caused by the short 9mm rounds not making it to the barrel ramp but after thirty or so rounds this problem stopped for some reason. I got a four shot grouping at just under twenty yards that is decent.
The Tokarev is versatile.

Well I am sure there will only be paper piercing going on at the ranges I visit.
The Tokarev is a good first pistol for anyone. Norinco makes them well and the ammunition is economical. Even for reloading the case does not take up much propellant as the 45ACP does. Moreover .45 components are much more expensive.
The Tokarev allows one to shoot either the .30 or the .35.
If you don't change the spring on the pistol and shoot weak 9mm then you'll find the casings land on your shooting hand. They ejected two inches from the ejection port, but they did eject.

I am puzzled by some of the comments. The VAST majority of self defense shootings happen at under 21 feet. WHo needs an accurate pistol with good sites at that distance? FWIW there are many who carry a Tokarev for CCW. Just browse some of the American forums. In Canada I would grab the Tokarev, In the states where I could CCW I would choose neither. I'd have either a G20 or G29.
