I am trying to decide if I want to use some shooting sticks during this year's deer hunt. I am hunting an area that is a mixture of open prairie and bluffs of trees. I'm am considering bringing them along for times when I'm walking the perimeter of the bluffs, standing on point or open prairie shots. I won't be taking them out of the truck for pushing bush.
My plan would be to carry them in hand as I walk and when time permitting set them up for the shot. If a quick shot presents itself I'd just drop them and shoot off hand or in a kneeling position.
I've never used shooting sticks before...are they really handy? Does my idea of carrying and using if time permitting sound alright or would they be a real pain to carry them around all the time?
