Moose hit by a car

[/IMG]We live in a residential area which is surrounded by woods. We leave for moose hunting this Friday & I have been practicing my cow calls outside of our house. I let out a call around 7:15 last night, and this morning when I arrived at the end of our street there was a dead bull moose. From what I understand from our neighbour, this moose was hit at around 7:30.
Could this moose have heard my call? Since Moose here are so few and far between, it's almost unheard of to hear that one has been struck by a car.
I am having some guilt issues now.........
 
Quite possible you called it in. Don't worry about it. I'd have that on the skinning pole by now...:)

Who hits a moose and just leaves it??
 
It's so frustrating! Apparently it had a broken leg & could not stand up. It was hit right accross the street from the provincial police department, so one of the officers came over & put it out of it's misery. The meat wagon was supposed to pick it up at some point during the day today! Just think of all the hungry people ........ Makes me sick!!
 
You mean no one took it to eat it :eek:
In my area it would have taken about 5 minutes for the news to get out.
And there would have been about 6 pick-ups with 15 guys trying to claim it.

Are you sure? In Saskatchewan, you can't just pick it up, you have to get a permit from the CO's. The problem with that is that you can't touch it (clean it) before you get the permit, so it's usually only good for dog food after laying for a few hours.
 
in nova scotia it is not legal to pick up a road kill. deer is the most common road kill and if it is not too smashed up it usually gets picked up and eaten. it does not make dnr very happy if the get the call to pick up a road kill and when they get there the only sign of a deer is a little blood on the road. :d
 
To get a deer in ontario jut pick it up and call the MNR to report it. no problems

Had a friend hit a deer in his truck.
He went to a close house to call police and someone stopped and took the deer out of his truck and put it in theirs.
he was gone for 15min max.
And yes he was PISSED.
 
I certainly understand the poaching issues, however in the case of an accident I don't see why the meat could not be offerred so that it didn't go to waste. There are lots of hungry people out there. I seriously doubt that anyone would intentionally hit a moose with their vehicle!! But then again, ya never know!!

I don't see any antlers, so that would mean this cow is a lesbian.

the right one looks broken off at the skull while the left is still attached. ;)

legal or not, ill be picking up any roadkill deer i see this winter since i now travel a lot for work. personally, it drives me nuts seeing great meat going to waste.
 
Depends how hard their hit. The three I drilled were like shaking a bag of wet cement with some sticks in it.
