i knew it was gonna happen :(

stripped my mk3 today and while at it decided to clean out the grip as well, couple of pins and the guts are out of the grip.......
so now i sit here with a bunch of parts and no clue how to put it back together

should have used brake cleaner :(

anyways, any help with that?

Ha. You're not the only one.

My MkIII 22/45 is still in pieces since I bought it in June. No matter how hard I try to remove the barrel from the frame, it doesn't seem to want to come off.

One of these days I'll fix it up...one of these days...

Remove the bolt and smack the back end forward with a rubber mallet. If you've never had it apart you'll probably have to hit it pretty hard. I thought I was going to break mine the first time I pulled it apart, but it works fine and comes apart more easily now that I've done it a few times. Just make sure you don't hit the rear sight.
As far as reassembly of the grip goes, I think Ruger has exploded view drawings and part lists on their website. Either hunt those down and muscle through or swallow your pride and take a boxfull of loose parts into your friendly neighbourhood gunsmith and admit what you did. :)

Before using the mallet check that you have the mag out. Sometimes I forget and then removing the barrel does not work regardless of how hard you smack it.

I took the easy way out with me Mk3 Hunter,I put it back in the box and tried to forget I bought it, I never liked the cheap plastic insert front sight and having heard so many horror stories about stripping the damed thing I decided not to bother with it, I rather have it working in one piece than in hundreds of small bits that will end up getting lost.

You might want to reconsider that approach. The difficulty of field stripping a MKIII is greatly exaggerated. There are only four parts (barrel, bolt, mainspring housing, grip assembly.)

Follow the instructions carefully, and when reassembling it keep in mind:

- the barrel assembly must be fully seated. Tap the grip with a mallet to make sure.
- the hammer strut (that little rat tail thing) must fit into the groove in the mainspring housing
- the magazine must be in the gun for the final step or the mainspring housing will not lock into place

After you've done it once or twice it's very easy.

Here are some videos from Volquartsen website They talk about replacing the sear and hammer and trigger.. maybe they will be useful. I did this trigger job on my mrk III.
