I was looking at getting a single action .22 revolver to get my feet wet in the single action shooting or perhaps fastdraw. I have fanned a Ruger and found it a lot of fun. Are there some SA .22 out there more suited for fanning the hammer? Obviously the ones without sight sticking up. Is fanning hard on the revolver timing?
Also the ruger cylinders click into place for firing but it is not as positive for ejecting the brass. Are there SA .22 out there that click into place for ejecting the brass so you don't have to wiggle the cylinder back and forth to get the ejector in?

Don't fan any single action unless it is specifically built for quick draw and/or fanning. That's the fastest way to f-up the internals and even blow up a gun.

Fanning is strictly Hollywood, and for quick draw shows. Nowhere in cowboy action shooting will you fan a gun.

I own several single action revolvers and one is a Colt "New Frontier" in .22. It too only locks up in firing position. I think that is something you will have to live with. I agree with "flip1" about the fanning part. Definitly HollyWeird stuff. Bob Munden is a single action Guru but he uses custom guns that are worth the down payment on a new 4x4 pick-up. Fanning a single action revolver once in awhile probably won't hurt it but doing it repeatedly will cause it to loosen up and mess up the timing. Thus you will turn a well made gun into a piece of junk. You can have them retuned and tightened up but they don't seem to last too long...ST...
