M&P Zero Issues

I traded off my Glock 17 for an M&P .40 because it fit my hand better - but I've found that it seems that the sights are way off - MPI is some 8" low consistently at 25 metres. That strikes me as being not too acceptable. I don't think it's "operator error" as it groups well, it's just that the MPI is off - is there anything I can do?
 
Are you obscuring the bottom half of the target with the sights, this pistol is not designed to be aligned with the bottom of the target, the way bullseye shooters were taught for years.

PS. You're aligning the sights too, right - do not align the dots, they aren't there for long distance precision work.

I had a similar situation when I started shooting my M&P but it has tightened up to right where I want it to be after 1500 rounds.
 
Is it new or used? Can you ask the previous owner how it shot, where he aimed and what kind of ammo?

If it is new, ask somone else to try it, just in case it is how you hold the pistol. I shoot my friends pistols about 6" lower than him at 25 yards. I hold the gun very firmly, he has a more relaxed grip. If you have a white knuckle grip, that could be the cause. A lower front sight would fix that.
 
Go to the range... look for a guy with a nice pistol group and ask him to shoot your gun. Confirm it's the sights. Then, hope you can fix the problem (i.e. the sights) :)
 
I have the same problem with my M&P 9mm that I just bought. Regularly shoots about 8" low and to the left even though I am sighting it to the bullseye. The sights on the M&P only allow for "windage" adjustments (left/right) so you will not be able to do anything to adjust the shooting low problem by adjusting the sights. You will have to do like I did and that it to learn to aim high with this gun. All my other handguns I line up the sights so that the three dots or center post is just on or below the bullseye, but with the M&P I have learned that I have to place the entire front sight over top of the target to get close to the 9 or 10 ring. Strange.
 
You are flinching! If you are shooting low to the left you are right handed and you are pulling the trigger and pushing the gun to the right. Try getting "Dummy" rounds and loading them in your mag with live rounds. Pay very close attention to your front sight and what happens when you pull the trigger, you must see the problem before you can fix it!

Yes, I am indeed working on the flinching, but I also shot a total of 100 rounds that day from benchrest with the same aiming results. In order to properly aim this gun I have to line up the front sight so that it completely covers the point of aim, instead of resting the top of the front sight at the bottom edge of what I am aiming at. It is most frustrating.
 
I did not have this problem with the M&P I tested at an indoor range. It had several thousand rounds through it however. Perhaps that trigger does smooth out with age!

Tha tmight be the case. The trigger on the M&P is very different from my XD45 and other guns. Maybe it will just take many rounds to get used to. But about 500 rounds of ammo have gone through this gun already and it hasn't improved much. Whereas with my Ruger, XD45, CZ85, SP-01, and 75B I was deadly accurate out of the box. Maybe I just like the CZ triggers more??
 
I noticed the same thing with a range M&P a couple weeks back, the trigger seemed a fair bit smoother than the one on my new M&P. That ought to work itself out after a few hundred rounds.
 
No problem here with the M&P 9MM. I have changed out my sights to FO and will change them again to a Dwason Precision FO front sight and use the factory rear sight.

Gun shoots point of aim but does require a secure grip. I find the trigger to be a little on the heavy side. Once the snow comes it is off to a 'smith for tuning the trigger.

While the sights, from a rest are right on when I shoot it two handed I tend to aim high, 12 o'clock on our standard IDPA target - ie in the Down zero zone.

If it's not you, ie flinching etc, try a different load, slower or heavier bullet. Can make plenty of difference.

My MP 9mm shoots low and to the left and my buddy in Omaha has the same issue with his.

I called S&W they said i could send it in and they would replace the front sight with a lower one. I'm thinking i might take it to a local gun smith to replace the front sight.. Does anyone know of good replacement sights?
