Sandhill Cranes

Anyone here hunt them or eat them.

I can limit out on them every time I hunt, but don't bother cause I'm not too sure about what they are like to eat and so on,...

Any experience????

Cook them with a 2x4....throw the crane away and eat the 2x4. Actually the young ones are pretty tasty but a boiled boot is preferable to an old one unless you cook forever to tenderize and spice up so it no longer tastes like crane. It's amazing how big they are when you actually pick one up though.

Just about what my 80 yr old Uncle George (HE Who Knows All, Hunting) said....
only he use an old leather boot!!

We have them on the menu at the Selkirk Sportsmen's Dinner, and they're not bad table fare when cooked slowly over a low heat. We cook ours in apple juice and throw some whole onions in the pot. Just add what ever spices you prefer.
