Many years ago I owned a now prohibited firearm (S&W 5905) Sold it when we had children. Kids are older now and would like to start shooting again. Since I dont have a prohib in my possession I'm told "NO LUCK". I am under the opinion I would have to purchase a prohib from my brother and then buy the one I want. Is this true?

If you do not currently have 12(6) status, you cannot acquire 12(6) status by buying a prohib from anyone now, even a blood relative. You can however inherit a prohib manufactured before 1945? (correct me if I'm wrong guys) from a direct relative and thereby acquire 12(7) status.

Even if you inherit, you get 12/7 status which is only good for that particular gun, you can't acquire more.
